Asher, Jarvis plead not guilty

The Clay County Judge Executive, Joe Asher and road foreman, Buford Jarvis indicted on several charges pleaded not guilty. They were indicted for abuse of public trust, bribery of a public servant and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Asher and Jarvis are facing 9 counts each. Their next hearing will be set for December 5.

Pray for our nation

A singing and a prayer will be held for our nation and the up coming election on October 22 from 1 PM till 5 PM at Rawlings and Stinson Park. ARC Grants

Earl Gohl, federal co-chair for ARC spoke at the POWER grant awards announcement last week, where EKCEP was awarded $2.75 million to help develop a technology ecosystem in Eastern Kentucky.


The Administration announced awards totaling $38.8 million for 29 economic and workforce development projects — in and across multiple states — that are building a stronger economic future for their communities, businesses, and workers. The awards are administered by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA). With these investments, it’s estimated that 3,418 jobs will be created or retained, and an additional $66,970,000 will be leveraged through investments from other public and private partners.

Pickup Stolen from Parking Lot

PatriciaStanley John Darr

Patricia Stanley, age 36, of Douglas Boulevard (Corbin) and John Darr, age 38, of Curry Lane (Corbin) were arrested on American Greeting Card Road near West Cumberland Gap Parkway after a traffic stop on a vehicle allegedly involved in a vehicle theft at a business parking lot the day before. Stanley and Darr had allegedly been observed on video surveillance allegedly involved in taking a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck. Both were also determined to be under the influence.
