Large Number of Stolen Items Recovered

Quick police work helped to recover a large number of stolen items the day the burglary was reported. Clay County Sheriff Deputy Taye Napier received a call of a complaint of several items being stolen at about 11:30 AM Thursday.

Head-on Collision on Hal Rogers Parkway

Kentucky State Police, officers with the Clay County Sheriff Office and Manchester Police Department were on hand at the scene of a head-on collision on Hal Rogers Parkway Friday. The driver of the green Pontiac had to be cut out by members of Manchester Fire and Rescue. She was rushed from the scene by Clay County EMS to the Air Evac base at Garrard and flown out. The driver of the other car was taken from the scene by ambulance. The cars were cleared by Allen’s and Bowling’s Tow services.

Death Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway in the shooting death of a Goose Rock man. Trevor Dykes age 24 was discovered by his fiancée after shots were fired early Monday morning, as the couple was getting ready for work.

Smith to Appeal Life Sentence

Terry R. Smith filed a motion in Federal Court Tuesday to appeal his life sentence. The notice of appeal was presented by his attorney Willis G. Coffey of Mt. Vernon. Smith was given a life sentence last week by Federal Judge Karen K. Caldwell who denied three motions that had been made by Smith of Horse Creek two days before handing down the sentence that is unique for two reasons.

Brewster Died While Helping Neighbor

Family and friends of Dewaine Brewster gathered at the New Cotton Cemetery Sunday afternoon to say goodbye to a man who died while helping a neighbor. His wife Jennifer and seven children survive Brewster. He was preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Zola Brewster, and one son Jonathan David Dewaine Brewster.

Drug bust at Clay Detention Center

While acting on a lead, Jailer Linda Smallwood, and Wes White were able to stop a drug drop in the making. Lucille Henson, was arrested and charged with 22 counts of promoting contraband (first degree).  According to a statement by the Jailer this isn’t the first time that Lucille has tried this.
