Author Visits Paces Creek

Clay County native and author, Cordellya Smith visited several classes at Paces Creek Elementary School last week. Smith lived at Mill Creek as a child.

She is now a Kentucky educator who has published poetry, personal essays, and fictional short stories. She shared her first children’s book, Kawoni’s Journey Across the Mountain: A Cherokee Little Red Riding Hood.

During the visit at Paces Creek, she read her book and talked to the students about the steps of the writing process. She helped introduce some Cherokee legends and ten new Cherokee words/phrases including hello (Osiyo), goodbye (donada’ gonvi), and “I love you” (gvgeyu).

‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive

Kentucky State Police Post 11, in London fifth annual ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive campaign extends through Dec. 16, 2014 and is designed to collect non perishable food items for needy families.

The food will be distributed to local shelters, churches or other organizations serving those in need during the holiday season. Suggested donations include canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, chili or spaghetti sauce, brownie and cake mixes, coffee, water, powdered milk and juices. Last year KSP collected 124,000 pounds of food.

Donations can be dropped off at Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London.

El Cazador Mexican Restaurant located in Manchester Square Shopping Center was closed by the Kentucky Department of Revenue.
Revenue officials were in Manchester Friday and placed a red poster on the door of the popular restaurant just before the start of one of the busiest nights of the week.

New Company Contracted to Clean up Caudill Gap

A Louisville company that had the state contract to clean up the tires at Caudill Gap has been shut down due to a fire, which appears to have been caused in part because the company was not in compliance with state laws, according to a report at WLKY.com.

Clay/Manchester Trail Town Committee to have a Float in Christmas Parade

Clay County/Manchester Trail Town Committee announced plans to have a Float in the Christmas Parade Saturday December 6. They are also in the planning stages of a first annual Clay County River Fest in June.
