Manchester Memorial Hospital is working hard to combat Childhood Obesity a problem that is effecting the children of the community. They offer the Live it Up! program in Clay County Middle School (and will be expanding to surrounding counties). Live it Up! is a program designed to teach the 8 principles of CREATION Health to children at a young age in hopes of setting them down a brighter path for their future.

October is Roadside PRIDE month

The weather is cooling down and it is the prefect opportunity to get out of the house and volunteer. Now is the time to join in southern and eastern Kentucky’s fall cleanup campaign, Roadside PRIDE. The Roadside PRIDE campaign encourages volunteers to pick up litter near their home, church, school, business or favorite spot this fall. PRIDE provides trash bags and gloves to volunteers who pick up litter and dispose of it with their own trash. For supplies, please call the PRIDE office toll free at 888-577-4339.

KPR will meet

public-retirees

The Cumberland Valley Chapter of the Kentucky Public Retirees (KPR) will meet Tuesday, October 11 at David’s Steak House in Corbin. Mealtime will begin at 11:30 AM with the meeting to follow. The guest speaker will be state Senator/Senate President Robert Stivers II. Any retiree (and spouse) receiving retirement benefits from KERS, CERS, or SPRS is welcome to attend.

Deadly accident on US 25E

A two vehicle injury accident occurred at the junction of US 25 E and KY 3085 in Flat Lick. A 2003 Chevy Cavalier, was being operated by Retha M. Payne, age 84, of Flat Lick attempted a left turn from the southbound of US 25E onto KY 3085. A 1988 Chevy pick-up, was being operated by William E. Smith age 64 of Tazewell who was traveling north on US 25E with two passengers in the vehicle. Both drivers were transported to the Knox County ARH. Payne was later air lifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center were she died the next day.

Gray found high with daughter

Donna Huff, age 46, of Gray was arrested after she took her ten year old daughter from the child’s Grandmother on Tipton Lane in Gray. Police found Huff on Norwood Drive, in Gray inside the vehicle along with her ten year daughter who was asleep in the back seat. She was determined to be under the influence, showing signs of being on Meth.
