USPS to relocate Oneida Post Office

The USPS Kentuckiana District announced it will proceed with a proposal to relocate the Oneida Post Office to a new building on the same property, set back further from the road. This action was sent in motion when the Kentucky Department of Transportation condemned the current facility to accommodate a road widening project. This is the final decision of the Postal Service with respect to this matter. There is no right to further administrative or judicial review of this decision.

Kids’ Fishing Derby

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will celebrate Free Fishing Weekend June 3-4. The site in Clay County will be the Redbird Ranger District Kids’ Fishing Derby, Little Double Creek Pond, located behind office at Big Creek. Fishing from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8 a.m. For ages 15 and under. Food and prizes for participants. Call (606) 598-2192 for more information.

Equipment Roadeo

The District 11 Equipment Roadeo was held Friday, May 19. Gregory Dewees, Jr. (Laurel County) won the overall individual championship by placing first in four of the six events. Buster Hoskins of Clay County finished second in Tractor and Tandem Trailer. The annual Roadeo brings together equipment operators from the district’s county garages for a day of friendly competition and fellowship.

Lineman & Fiber Optics Program

After two months of extensive training, 21 Eastern Kentuckians were recognized during a ceremony on Friday, May 19 for completing the Lineman & Fiber Optics Training course offered through the Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) in partnership with the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP) and Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E.).

Carry Concealed Class

There will be a Carry Conceal Deadly Weapons Class on Monday June 5 at 5:30 PM at the Clay County health Department Community Room. The class room will be on Monday evening and the range will be on the following evening. The class cost is $65.00. Hearing and eye protection will be supplied, but you can bring your own.
