Ride for Kids

The First Annual Ride for Kids was held on a beautiful Saturday and was a hugh success. More than 75 riders enjoyed a free guided ride across different parts of Clay County including a stop at the Panco Community Church so they could tour the new playground equipment. They returning to Rawlings and Stinson Park were they were served a free lunch provided by Panco Riders. The theme of the ride is “United we ride countywide, taking the kids back.”

Public workshop on Red Bird watershed

Forest Service management officials invite public participation in an upcoming workshop for the Red Bird River watershed improvement project. Anyone interested in potential management activities on national forest lands in Clay and Leslie counties is encouraged to attend. The workshop will be held on Thursday, August 24 at EKU/Manchester at 1 PM. Anyone interested in attending the workshop may contact Bobby Claybrook or Randy Swilling with the Daniel Boone National Forest at 606-598-2192.

Resurfacing to conclude August 31

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a resurfacing project beginning at the KY 80 Clay County line (milepoint 0.0) to the intersection of U.S. 421 (milepoint 7.537) and U.S. 421 (16.915 at the intersection of KY 80) to the intersection of KY 2438 (17.969) is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, August 31. Work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. each day. KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.

Stewart Wins KDRA Super Stock

Richmond Raceway would present the 3rd Annual AR Bodies KDRA Super Stock Nationals on Saturday evening and Eddie Stewart of Manchester. Stewart would make a clean sweep of the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stock Nationals event as he would be the top qualifier, win his heat, and pick up the $2,500 payday in the Super Stock Nationals main event.

New CDL Requirements

The Kentucky Division of Driver Licensing has launched a new on—line web service, MyCDL, which requires Commercial drivers to submit their Medical Certifications, Self-Certifications and Commercial Applications. First time users will need to create an account, and will use the same User ID and Password each time they log into: mycdl.ky.gov. They will receive an immediate confirmation email and another email when their CDLIS driving record. No documents can submit through fax and/or e-mail after October 1, according to Clay County Circuit Clerk James Phillips.

United We Give

When the planes hit on September 11, Americans felt helpless but knew donating blood was something they could do to support their country. Thousands lined up across the nation, including here in Kentucky. Blood donations are the ultimate renewable resource, and area residents are invited to recycle life at the upcoming Kentucky Blood Center blood drive at the Memorial Hospital from 9 AM till 1 PM on Friday September 15.

Green Scholars

Seven 2017 graduates of Clay County High School have been named Senator Jeff Green Scholars by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). To earn this honor, a student must have a 4.0 grade point average each year of high school and at least a 28 composite on the ACT. Local scholars are Rayanna Baker, Kody Bargo, Lauren Bray, Tyler Ferrell, Meghan Rice, Whitney Sizemore and Joseph White.
