Four face criminal syndicate charges

Four Clay County residents are scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Tuesday May 12 on criminal syndicate charges.
Harvey Gibbs age 53 Paw Paw Road, Karen Smith age 41 of Memorial Drive, Joseph G. Smith age 54 of Memorial Drive and Charlie “Pete” Roberts age 58 of Curry Branch Road were four of fourteen Clay County residents charged by a Clay County Grand Jury for engaging in organized crime (criminal syndicate).

The Kentucky Association of Counties (KaCo) held their annual Clay County meeting at Goose Rock Elementary. Since its creation in 1974, KaCo has been representing the needs of county government in legislative matters and offering a variety of services to promote the progress of Kentucky counties. Some of the services that KaCo Offers its members are insurance, financing, continuing education, procurement services and training.

CCHS presents Wizard of Oz

Clay County High School “Tiger Troupe” presents the Wizard of Oz (Young Performers Edition) Thursday and Friday May 7 and 8 at 7 PM and Saturday May 9 at 4 PM and 7 PM. Doors will open thirty minutes prior to show time. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

Four face arson and criminal syndicate charges

Several defendants are scheduled to appear in Clay Circuit Court Monday May 4 for Pre-Trial Hearings. Four are charged with arson and being part of a criminal syndicate. They are charged with arson and burglary of a mobile home owned by Virginia and Stoddard Allen.

Boot, Human Remains May Help Identify Body

After nearly a month of searches, investigations and CSI type tests local officials are closing in on the identification of the person whose skull was found near Ephram Creek. During a search Saturday Clay County Corner Danny Finley and members of the Clay County Sheriffs Office discovered a boot covered in moss and two additional legs bones, apparently a tibia and a sliver of another long bone.
