Free Fishing Weekend

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will celebrate Free Fishing Weekend June 3-4. Free Fishing Weekend, an annual event since 1992, offers residents and non-residents the opportunity to fish Kentucky waters without a license or permit. Limits on the size and number of fish that anglers may keep still apply. Additionally, anglers may keep trout without possessing a trout permit during free fishing weekend.

Art in Summer Reading

Save the Children, Berea College, Clay County Extension Services and the Collaborative for Teaching and Learning (CTL) are partnering to offer “The Art in Summer Reading”, on Thursday, June 1 from 5:30-7:30 at the Excel building next to McDonald’s in Manchester. Free dinner will be provided and we’ll make healthy smoothies at the end of the evening. We’ll also have new, free books for a variety of ages as well as information on how families can help their young children prepare for kindergarten.

Clay Library receives $364,000 grant

The Clay County Public Library has been awarded a Public Library Facilities Construction Fund grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA)to expand the library from 6,800 square feet to 13,614 square feet. The library will receive $18,200 per year from KDLA for the next 20 years for a total of $364,000 to assist with debt retirement.

Grubb Faces Murder Charge

The man wanted for the death of a Sol Hollow man was arrested in Hamilton (Ohio) Friday evening. Police arrested Kenneth B. Grubb and charged him in the disappearance and death of Robert L. Burns. After being listed as missing for a few hours his badly decomposed body was discovered in a wooded area near his home May 4. Grubb, age 41, is also know as Bryan L. Grubb and Brian L. Grubb. According to Internet records he has lived in Hamilton, Manchester and Downey, CA. A tip from Crime Stopper led to his arrest.

Tipline.ky.gov

Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary William M. Landrum III today announced a new complaint and compliance hotline called Tipline.ky.gov. The Commonwealth has partnered with third-party vendor Red Flag Reporting in bringing this valuable and independent reporting mechanism to state employees and Kentucky residents. The Personnel Cabinet has also been a collaborative partner in the project. Through the online reporting system at Tipline.ky.gov, or by calling 1-800-590-3921, anyone can easily report concerns regarding improper, illegal or unsafe activity within the Executive Branch.
