Griffin murder trial delayed

Dwight Hughes to stand trial March 14 over 2014 shooting death of Brian Griffin, assault of shooting victim Jason Roberts

The trial date has been postponed until March 14 in the murder case against Dwight Douglas Hughes, age 61, of Fogertown, according to kycourts.net. The trial had been scheduled for Friday (February 5) in Jackson County.

“We don’t want to wait four or five years to get this case going” said Circuit Judge Oscar House Monday afternoon in describing his frustration over the period of time it is taking to get DNA and other forensic test results in the case of four defendants charged in the murder of Trevor Dykes.

It’s been over 20 years since Burning Springs had captured a boy’s basketball championship. They put that streak to an end Saturday night with a 41-31 win in the First National Bank Tournament championship.

It took North Laurel more than 11 years to finally beat Clay County and now the Lady Jaguars have accomplished the feat twice in just a week.

But it wasn’t easy, though. If there is a silver-lining in a loss, Clay County found one in this one.
