Story and photos

Looking for deer shed antlers turned into a hike that I hadn’t really planned to do last week in a drizzling rain. I was looking for sheds along the wood line of the Hal Rogers Parkway near Hector around what is known as Britton Branch. While searching the area, and having no luck, I remembered my father telling me about a deep mine Shamrock Coal had in the 60’s on that mountain.

One Tree Hill

OTH logo
We have all had an obsession with television shows. In the 80’s it was Dallas and ‘Who shot J.R.?’ The 90’s gave us Friends and the question of what will become of Rachel and Ross?
From 2000 to 2009 watchers were glued to Grey’s Anatomy with character’s Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd.

Lynsie Gregory, Lauren and friends Courtney Lovern and Sierra Kiser at the Riverwalk in Wilmington, N.C.

Things got a little more tantalizing in the last six years or so as Son’s of Anarchy was one of the most popular shows with Jax Teller.

But for two Clay County girls there is only one show to watch—One Tree Hill. The show originally started in 2004 and ran nine seasons until it went off the air in 2012. The show was always popular, but it took off once it was available on Netflix, and that’s where we start our story.

Potential jurors were questioned on a number of topics including whether they were acquainted with any of the parties, had heard anything about the case or formed an opinion about the case, believed in the presumption of innocence and understood that the Commonwealth’s burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt, and whether they were turkey hunters.

A jury of 8 women and 6 men was selected. 12 jurors will ultimately decide the case, with 2 alternates being removed at the time deliberations begin.

In the Commonwealth’s opening statement, Assistant Attorney General Barbara Whaley told the jury that Griffin, Roberts and Chad Bullock had gone turkey hunting in Fogertown on the morning in question. She previewed the testimony of Roberts and Bullock, who will say that during the hunt they believed they encountered another hunter and as they were preparing to ease away and change locations a shot rang out and struck Griffin and Roberts. Bullock heard someone running off and called to the person as well as calling 911.
