James Ed Garrison surprised a few people in last night’s election by being the top vote getter in a very tight mayor’s race. James Ed Garrison grabbed 271 or 41.8% of the votes.
Incumbent Sheriff Kevin Johnson becomes the county’s top vote getter in the May primary with a total number of 3,431 votes. First time candidate Larry “Red” Smith ran a great campaign finishing second in the sheriff’s race with 1,708 votes. Finishing up was Wendell Keen grabbing 448 votes and Clarence Sizemore with 190.
Long time Clay County Jail employee, Linda Smallwood defeated Manchester City Police Officer, Jason Combs by the narrowest margin in voter memory.
Local Clay County Attorney, Allen B. Roberts won the 41st District Judge Judicial race that consisted of Clay, Jackson and Leslie County.
A public Mayor debate was held Wed May 7th at the Clay County Community Room above the library.
