Dispatchers Aim to Feed Families

The Clay County 911 Dispatch Center is hosting a food drive for the holidays.

Dispatcher Jimmy Smith, who along with his fellow dispatchers wanted to give back to the community, says the center is accepting donations of non-perishable food items to go to the Bread of Life Food Pantry here in Manchester.

Police Department to Increase Christmas Patrol

Manchester Police Chief Chris Fultz says the city police department will be increasing its patrol in residential areas this Christmas season.

“A lot of people go out of town for the Holidays, so we’re trying to deter that regular up tick in crime that tends to occur around Christmas,” says Fultz. Fultz warns that Manchester residents should keep their doors locked, and any valuables left outside need to be brought indoors.

Two Postal Employees Plead Guilty to Taking Drugs Intended for Clay Veterans

This week two U.S. Postal Service employees admitted to stealing packaged with prescription pills intended for veterans living in Eastern and Central Kentucky, including medicine that was being shipped to Manchester, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Pamela J. Hawkins, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday while James Carter, 40, pleaded guilty Monday to the same charge in a separate case. Both are residents of Lexington and were employed at the Postal Service’s Lexington processing center.

STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO PHI KAPPA PHI

Brandon Hibbard of Manchester was one of 41 Eastern Kentucky University students inducted into the national Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society during a special ceremony on campus in November.

Approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

KSP Hosts Cram the Cruiser

The Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, is accepting donations of canned and non-perishable food items for its second annual “Cram the Cruiser” food drive now through Dec. 12. The local post hopes to collect a state police cruiser full of food at 11 State Police Road in London, KY.
