Council Approves Citywide Smoking Ban
The Manchester City Council approved a ban on smoking in public places in the city Monday night.“Smoking is a privilege, and breathing is a necessity,” said Councilman John Ed Pennington, after going on record as sponsoring the smoking ban.
The city council voted unanimously to pass the ban against smoking and met applause from local citizens in doing so.
Island Creek Crash Injures Four
Four people were injured in a wreck on Island Creek Monday afternoon.
Around 1 PM, just three miles north of Manchester, a black four-door sedan, driven by Mary Burns, 78, of Manchester, collided with an S10 pick-up driven by Bertha Rogers, 39, of Manchester.
Woods Dies in Highway 80 Wreck
A Manchester man was killed in a Laurel County wreck Monday morning.
According to Sheriff John Root, Laurel Sheriff’s Sgt Josh Gaylor is investigating a vehicle fatal traffic crash, which occurred on Ky 80, 8 miles east of London on Monday morning at around 11:38 A.M.
A 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van was westbound on Ky 80 in a curve and on a hillcrest when the van slid sideways on the rain slick roadway, and slid into the path of an eastbound 1988 Ford Ranger Pickup.
Fusner Behind Bars for Double Shooting
KSP Find Gun in Pond
The gun suspected to have been used in a double shooting on Roots’ Branch last week has been found by Kentucky State Police Friday in Jackson County.
After investigating the shooting, KSP Trooper Jeff Senters determined the shooter to be 21-year-old Jeremy Fusner of Clay County.
Officers responded to the incident, which occurred around 10:52 AM Thursday morning. A neighbor had called 911 after one of the shooting victims, Michael D. Jones, 33, stepped out on the front porch, asking his neighbor to call police, saying there’s been a shooting.
Trooper Senters, along with Sheriff Kevin Johnson and Deputies Brian Jackson and Dewey Grubb, were the first to respond and contained the scene until other officers arrived.
Mother and 4-Month-Old Laid to Rest After Wreck
A mother and her four-month-old baby girl were laid to rest Monday, after their car overturned in a river along KY 11 last week.
Kimberly Jackson, 27, of Manchester was traveling southbound on KY 11 when the 1994 Toyota Camry she was driving went out of control in a curve.
