Save A Lot Donates Food

Save-A-Lot stores in Clay County donated hundreds of food items to the school board to be distributed to needy families throughout Clay County Friday. This is the fourth year that Save-A-Lot has made their charitable contribution to the Youth Service Centers in Clay County Schools, so that kids and their families will be sure to eat on Thanksgiving. Members of the Manchester and Clay County Youth Service Centers gladly accepted the donations from Save-A-Lot Fall Rock Manager Anthony Hinkle and Garrard Manager Jim Howard.

Thompson Jailed for Threatening Officers

A man is in jail after barricading himself in an RV on Sacker and threatening law enforcement officials, according to police.

Ronnie Thompson, 63, of Manchester, is set for arraignment next Monday, after being charged with disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication in a public place, resisting arrest, and wanton endangerment of a police officer.

Constable Found Guilty of Distributing Pills, Possessing Firearm

A Clay County Constable was found guilty by a jury in United States District Court in London on all counts Thursday.

Jackie "Tire Man" Roberts was found guilty of possessing a fire arm and unlawful drug usage by a jury.

Jackie “Tire Man” Roberts, 50, of Horse Creek was indicted earlier this year. He was charged that on July 19, 2011, Jackie Roberts distributed hydrocodone pills.
Further, the indictment alleged that on July 20, 2011, Jackie Roberts possessed a firearm after having been convicted of a felony, and after having been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. The indictment also alleged that Jackie Roberts possessed a firearm and was an unlawful drug user.
A two month long investigation that began May 25 of this year revealed Roberts was selling pills from his tire shop on Garrard, according to UNITE’s drug task force.
Undercover police tapes revealed Roberts and his wife, Jennifer, 41, crushing and snorting pills with an undercover informant.
Jennifer pleaded guilty to charges last month, admitting that she illegally sold pain pills.
The jury heard testimony for two days, and returned the verdict on November 11 after approximately 2 hours of deliberations.
