The grant is one of 18 new Land and Water Conservation Fund project grants to help enhance tourism across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Department for Local Government will administer the funds, totaling $558,537, to project awardees.
Clay County's Shop With A Sheriff program has been awarded an Operation Round-Up grant by Jackson Energy.
The program, which provides Christmas presents to needy Clay County children, was awarded a $1,000 grant. Operation Round-Up is a voluntary program funded by Jackson Energy members who round their electric bill to an even dollar amount each month.
Dispatcher Jimmy Smith, who along with his fellow dispatchers wanted to give back to the community, says the center is accepting donations of non-perishable food items to go to the Bread of Life Food Pantry here in Manchester.
“A lot of people go out of town for the Holidays, so we’re trying to deter that regular up tick in crime that tends to occur around Christmas,” says Fultz. Fultz warns that Manchester residents should keep their doors locked, and any valuables left outside need to be brought indoors.
Pamela J. Hawkins, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday while James Carter, 40, pleaded guilty Monday to the same charge in a separate case. Both are residents of Lexington and were employed at the Postal Service’s Lexington processing center.
