Uncle charged with shooting niece

A Manchester woman, 19-year-old Brittany Hooker of Locust Street, was shot in the right eye Thursday evening at her home, and her uncle has been charged with the crime.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Hooker was flown to a Tennessee hospital where she underwent surgery. Hooker, who is still listed in critical condition, is expected to recover but she has lost the sight of her eye, and the bullet is still lodged in her brain.

Hooker’s uncle, Mark Minton, 35 of KY 687, shot her using a .38 caliber pistol, police said.  He was charged with assault in the first degree, manufacturing methamphetamine and tampering with physical evidence.

Police said that an argument had erupted over Hooker’s boyfriend wrecking Minton’s vehicle earlier in the day.

The boyfriend, Robert Banks, 22, also of Locust Street, was charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief and manufacturing methamphetamine.

The Sheriff’s Office said the call came in a 7:39 p. m.

1962 murder of sheriff may be solved

The 42-year-old murder of Clay County Sheriff James ‘Matt” Sizemore has apparently been solved.  A Clay County Grand Jury today indicted Oran Brumley, 61, for the June 1, 1969 ambush of the then 52-year-old lawman.  Brumley, a native of Clay County, was known locally as Owen, not Oran.
