Dozens gathered at the Hima Post Office Thursday night in an effort to save it from closing.
The United States Postal Service announced earlier this year that the Horse Creek community post office was in consideration for closing.
Members of the community who rely on the post office’s services met with Area Manager Mike Thompson to plead their case.
“Projections for the future are bleak. Post Offices are facing a major economic crisis. We’ve seen a $43 billion decline in the last five years, and another 20 percent decline in the next four,” said Thompson.
This year marks a successful first year in racing for the young dragster, who is a freshman at Clay County High School.
Sonya Brown Dezarn, 36, of Manchester will be having a bone marrow transplant on Tuesday to continue combating leukemia.
For the past few weeks, hundreds of Team Sonya t-shirts and rubber-band bracelets have been bought in an effort to aid Dezarn with her transplant.
