Fire Claims 71-Year-Old Building

A suspicious fire has claimed a building in downtown Manchester that has been part of the landscape there for more than 70 years.

The fire began around 11:30 PM Thursday night where all the county Fire Departments, along with the London City Fire Department, responded to the fire on US 421, battling flames well into the Friday morning hours. Manchester Fire Chief Jamey Mills says that when the fire department arrived at the scene, the upstairs of one side of the building had heavy fire.

Cops Chase Combs for Walmart Theft

A man has been arrested after being chased through Manchester Square Shopping Center and across the Hal Rogers’ Parkway Sunday.

According to police, Jonathan Combs, 19, of Paces Creek, is behind bars for theft by unlawful taking after Walmart security caught him stealing.

County Signs Animal Shelter Contract with Knox-Whitley

County Judge Executive Joe Asher announced Tuesday the county’s intention to sign a contract with the Knox-Whitley Humane Association to take Clay’s stray dogs.

The decision came after the county’s attempt to write and pass an ordinance to satisfy a lawsuit filed against the county’s animal shelter under the former administration.

A well-known businessman in the community will be laid to rest Thursday.

Robert Burchell, better known as Robby, passed away Sunday at Manchester Memorial Hospital of complications from double pneumonia.

Community Theatre Presents “Christmas Day in the Morning”

Evangelist Sister Eva Marie, as played by Linda Napier, asked for an "Amen" from all the orphans at the Little Angel Home for The Orphans.

The Clay Community Theatre made its annual Christmas presentation of “On Christmas Day in the Morning” this weekend.

The Clay County High School Auditorium was packed with crowds of people to watch the Christmas production Friday and Sunday.
