Former city police officer Sandlin sentenced to five years

Former Manchester Police Officer Scotty Dean Sandlin was sentenced to five years Monday in Clay Circuit Court after pleading guilty to trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree.

City raises fire district fees

The Manchester City Council Monday night approved an increase in fire protection fees for county residents, during a meeting that was raucous from nearly beginning to end.

All residents of the fire district, which extends five miles outside the city limits except Garrard, have been charged $50 a year. That was also true for churches. Multiple family dwellings and commercial property were being charged $100 a year.

After much wrangling, arguing, posturing and discussion, the council agreed in a five to three vote to raise the rates for residences and churches to $100 per year and for multiple family dwellings and commercial property to $150 per year.
