Bobby Sester, 23, has been charged with manslaughter after the death of an infant Thursday.
Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson confirms that an 18-month-old child was killed after being struck by a truck Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4 PM. Bobby Sester, 23, of Oneida, was visiting a home on Burning Springs, according to Sheriff Johnson.
Johnson says Sester, who was driving a standard shift truck, was in idle, and rolled forward fiftenn to twenty feet, when an uncle to the child yelled at him to stop. Johnson says Sester stopped the truck, but not before running over the child, killing it.
The child was the daughter of Curtis and Jessica Burkhart.
Sester has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence (first offense, aggravating circumstances), and is being held in the Clay County Detention Center.
Chief Deputy Brian Jackson is investigating the accident.
"Obviously, as far as the Sheriff's Office is concerned, we will do what we have to do in prosecuting this case to the fullest extent of the law. Impaired driving, especially as a contributing factor in an accidental death, cannot be condoned," said Jackson.
Jackson says blood tests in the investigation are pending.
