So instead of ranting about one certain aspect of sports, let’s discuss the week that was in sports.
Let the Players Play!
The NFL (No Fun League) is killing me. Fines are running rampant throughout the league because of “unnecessary” hits, etc. Last time I checked, this was football, and fines weren’t handed out for playing the game. I’m all in favor of keeping the players safe, but there has to be a limit to what the league mandates as necessary and unnecessary.
Either change the rule or just put flags on the quarterbacks.
It’ll be Auburn vs. Oregon in the BCS National Championship in a few weeks, and I, for one, am very excited about this game. I think this game has the potential to be a complete shootout between two of the top offenses of the past few years.
I’ll dare even say this game could be more of a shootout then the Texas/USC game from a few years ago.
I’ll take Auburn, 44-38.
‘Bron Silences the Cavs
As bad as it pains me to say this, I was impressed by Lebron James’ performance over the Cavs this week. In front of possibly the most hostile environment I’ve seen during an NBA game in a very long time, Lebron showed the world why he’s one of the greatest players on the earth, single-handedly physically destroying the Cavs. Keep in mind that he already destroyed them mentally by taking his “talents” to South Beach.
Also keep in mind that he’s not Kobe.
High School Hoops
With impressive regional victories this week, both CCHS basketball squads showed 13th region fans why they are considered to be at the top of the region this season.
As expected, both the Lady Tigers and Tigers’ leading scorers have been impressive, as Whitney Belle Jackson and Matt Mitchell both had a superb week.
But, I’ve also been impressed with the Tigers’ Allen Whitaker coming off the bench, along with sophomore Lady Tiger Morgan Chesnut.
‘Classic’ Weekend on Tap
With the Bobby Keith Classic coming up this weekend, fans should be on the lookout for a great sports weekend here in Clay County.
The Bobby Keith Classic will feature not only Clay County taking on Shelby County, but Corbin will face off against Perry County Central in the ‘Classic’ opening game.
Saturday afternoon, the Lady Tigers welcome Sheldon Clark into the Tiger Den. Let’s hope the Lady Tigers can continue their winning ways against a very talented Lady Cardinal squad.
An enormous congratulations goes out to CCMS Raider basketball coach Jimmy Dezarn. He and his wife Cindy welcomed a brand spankin’ new baby boy, Cooper, to the world this week.
Let’s Get Up Out
Everyone be safe in this dreary, winter wonderland this week. That’s going to do it for this week. Weather permitting…
I’ll see you at the games.
