State’s Top Running Back Topples Tigers in Appalachian Bowl

The Clay County Tiger defensive unit swarmed a Johnson Central running back in the early goings of Friday night's Appalachian Wireless Bowl game against the Golden Eagles.

Manchester – Johnson Central senior running back JJ Jude recorded close to 200 yards total offense with three touchdowns to help down the host Clay County Tigers in the Appalachian Wireless Bowl Friday night 40-6.

The loss marked the worst loss for Clay County since falling to Rockcastle County 61-13 in 2006.

The loss also dropped the Tigers to 0-3 on the year, the first time the Tigers have fell in their first three games since 2002.

Border Rivalry

After suffering their worst loss in five years, first-year Head Coach Kenny Roark and the Clay County Tigers now face off against South Laurel Friday night looking to end a three-game losing streak.

The Tigers (0-3) are looking to avoid their first 0-4 start since 2002, the same year the Tigers posted a 0-10 record.

Conference Tourney Up Next for Tiger Golf Squad

Lady Tigers Down Knox in Home Match

Coach Jason Smith’s Clay County Tiger golf team looks to come away with a conference tournament championship Tuesday in the Southeastern Kentucky Golf Conference tournament at Crooked Creek Golf Course in London.

The conference tournament was originally scheduled for September 6, but was pushed back due to inclement weather.

Thus far, the Tigers are currently ranked second in the conference with a 6-1 record in conference play, with Corbin possessing the top spot with a 7-0 record.

Lady Tigers Rebound to Down Red Bird

After suffering back-to-back losses to regional opponents, Coach Phillip Jones’ Clay County Lady Tiger volleyball team bounced back, defeating Red Bird in two sets this past week.

The Lady Tigers dominated the first set, defeating the host Lady Cardinals 25-12.

From there, Clay County cruised to a second-set victory, winning the set 25-19 to win the match.

Second Half Letdown

Tigers Outscored 17-0 in Second Half for Second Straight Loss

Lebanon – A disappointing second-half performance from the Clay County Tigers led to their second straight loss of the year, falling to host Marion County 31-14 Saturday night in the Heart of Kentucky Pigskin Classic.

The Tigers ended the first half tied at 14, but the Marion County offense torched the Tigers in the second, as Clay County’s offense struggled throughout the game.

“We started off playing well,” said Tiger Head Coach Kenny Roark, “But we made a lot of mental errors. We have to learn to play full go for the whole 48 minutes.”
