No Match for the Lake Show

Tigers Fall to Russell for Back-to-Back Shutout Losses

Freshman quarterback Ryan Holland drops back to deliver a pass as a Russell County defender closes in.

Russell Springs – The Clay County Tigers suffered their second straight shutout loss Friday night, falling to district opponent Russell County 56-0.

The depleted Tigers were no match for the speed of the Lakers, and also played without two starters as freshman Sam Carr and sophomore Braden Gibbs were sidelined for Friday’s game.

Coach Kenny Roark’s Tigers also lost three more players during the course of Friday’s game.

Juniors Joseph Cheek (shoulder), Darren Copeland (mild concussion), and JR Gray (chest) were each forced to the sideline during the course of Friday’s game.

Lady Tigers Capture Third District Title in Team History

The Clay County Lady Tigers survived a three-set match with Jackson County to capture their second district title in three years.

Oneida – With the match tied at one set apiece, Coach Phillip Jones’ Clay County Lady Tiger volleyball team came away with a 25-19 win in the third set over Jackson County last week in the finals of the 49th district tournament at Oneida Baptist Institute.

Clay County gained an early one-set lead after defeating the Lady Generals 25-15 in their first set.

Tigers Return to District Play Against Russell County

Coach Kenny Roark’s Clay County Tiger football team looks to break a three-game losing streak Friday night, traveling to Russell County to take on Coach Bill Sharp’s Lakers.

The Lakers boast a 6-1 record on the year, losing their first game of the season in their last game, a 29-27 overtime loss to district foe Rockcastle County.

Both the Tigers and Lakers will be seeking their first district win of the year, as the Tigers lost to Knox Central 52-8 in their first district game.

Bobcats Surge for 27 Second Half Points in Win

Freshman running back Sam Carr looks for space during Clay County's 41-0 loss to Bell County Friday night.

Manchester – After a long week that included several injuries and players quitting, the Clay County Tigers put up a valiant effort against the Bell County Bobcats Friday night.

Coach Kenny Roark’s Tigers worked the clock, but with several new faces on the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers were simply outmanned Friday night, falling to the Bobcats 41-0 at Tiger Stadium.

McDaniel Makes Strong Showing at State

‘Chip’ Only Freshman to Place in Top 15

Freshman Tyler “Chip” McDaniel posted a two-round total of 150 after Wednesday’s second round at the KHSAA State Golf Tournament.

McDaniel’s 150 was good enough for a fifth place finish in the state tournament, and was the only freshman who posted a top-15 finish.
