Lady TIgers Split in Region Games

Coach Phillip Jones’ Clay County Lady Tiger volleyball team split the win-loss column in regional games this past week.

The Lady Tigers put up a great effort against visiting Harlan County on Thursday, but lost in three sets, 2-1.

Clay County lost the first set, 25-21, but bounced back in the second set to win 25-22.

Late Field Goal Sends Tigers to Fourth Loss on Year

Junior Joey Dezarn makes an incredible catch over two Whitley County defenders during the Tigers' 33-32 loss last Friday night.

Williamsburg – Trailing 30-26 with 1:49 remaining in the game, Clay County freshman Sam Carr returned a Whitley County kickoff 80 yards to give his Tigers a two-point lead late in Friday night’s game against the host Colonels.

But two penalties along with good clock management and a solid rushing attack led to Whitley County kicker Seth McCoy nailing a 24-yard field goal with five seconds remaining, as the Tigers fell to 1-4 on the year, losing to Whitley County 33-32 Friday night.

What Lies Ahead

Following Open Week, Tigers to Face Brutal Second-Half Schedule

Junior Jacob Hyde and the rest of the Clay County TIgers return to action next Friday on the road againts district foe Knox Central.

With a 1-4 start to the first half of this year’s football schedule, the road doesn’t get any easier for the Clay County Tiger football team.

The Tigers, coming off a disappointing 33-32 loss to Whitley County, have an open week this week meaning that there is no game for the black-and-gold until September 30 against district foe Knox Central.

Five teams remain on the Tigers’ regular season schedule, and those five teams have combined for a 22-2 record thus far.

Tigers Finish Runner-Up in Conference Tourney

McDaniel Wins Conference Player of the Year

Coach Jason Smith’s Clay County Tiger golf team finished two shots behind Pulaski County this past week, falling to the Maroons in the Southeastern Kentucky Golf Conference tournament.

The Tigers picked up a runner-up finish in the event, but also fell short in the conference regular season standings, finishing behind Corbin for the regular season title.
