The Manchester Enterprise: High School Local Sports

Early Test

Coach James “Ivy” Burchell’s two-time defending regional champion Clay County Lady Tigers begin their quest for their third straight Sweet 16 appearance Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Tigers travel to Bullitt East High School for a preseason exhibition against 27th district champion Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart returns their top three scorers from last season’s 17-14 squad.
The senior trio of Morgan Clemons (12 ppg, 8.5 rpg), Maddie Peabody (9.8 ppg), and Monica McGreal (8 ppg) return for their final year under Coach Donna Moir as part of a senior oriented team.
The exhibition will be an excellent test for the Lady Tiger guards.
“Sacred Heart is an excellent pressing team,” stated Coach Burchell, “So we’ll have to be tough with the ball.”
Coach Burchell also mentioned how he wanted to not only see a change physically with his squad, but mentally as well this season.
“We want to see a big difference in our defensive intensity and our ability to crash the offensive boards,” stated Coach Burchell, “But this year, it’s all about attitude and aggressiveness.”
The Lady Tiger junior varsity team will tip off Saturday afternoon’s exhibition at 1:00, while the varsity team follows at 2:00.
