Foul Trouble Dooms Lady Cards

With just over a minute to play and a six-point lead, Red Bird Middle School’s Kelly Nolan and Kassidy Collett both fouled out, leading to host Stinnett being able to take the lead to defeat the Lady Cardinals 41-38 Saturday night.

Collett tied the game at the end of the first half after a three-pointer, tying the game at 17 heading into the second half.

Both teams went back and forth in the second half, but towards the end of the game the Lady Cardinals’ top defensive players, Collett and Nolan, fouled out, allowing Stinnett the chance to win the game in the final minute.

For the game, Collett led Red Bird with 13 points.  Kelly Nolan boasted her fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and 15 rebounds.  Kassidy Collett poured in nine points, as Emily McConnell chipped in three points.  Chelsey Collett rounded out the scoring with an additional two points in the loss.

“This was a tough loss for us,” said Red Bird Middle School Head Coach Lisa Nolan, “But it was a good experience for both myself as a coach and my girls.”

Red Bird will be back in action for two home games next week with Lone Jack and Harlan County.
