County Signs Animal Shelter Contract with Knox-Whitley

County Judge Executive Joe Asher announced Tuesday the county’s intention to sign a contract with the Knox-Whitley Humane Association to take Clay’s stray dogs.

The decision came after the county’s attempt to write and pass an ordinance to satisfy a lawsuit filed against the county’s animal shelter under the former administration.

Lumber Company Co-Owner Passes

A well-known businessman in the community will be laid to rest Thursday.

Robert Burchell, better known as Robby, passed away Sunday at Manchester Memorial Hospital of complications from double pneumonia.

Community Theatre Presents “Christmas Day in the Morning”

Evangelist Sister Eva Marie, as played by Linda Napier, asked for an "Amen" from all the orphans at the Little Angel Home for The Orphans.

The Clay Community Theatre made its annual Christmas presentation of “On Christmas Day in the Morning” this weekend.

The Clay County High School Auditorium was packed with crowds of people to watch the Christmas production Friday and Sunday.

Collins to Retire After 27 Years in Clay Schools

A Paces Creek Elementary staff member Glenna Collins will be retiring this month after 27 years with the Clay County Board of Education.

All but two years were spent at Paces Creek Elementary. One year, Collins taught at Goose Rock Elementary and another at Clay County High School.

Cornett Celebrates 100 Happy Years

Marie Cornett, of Fogertown, celebrated her 100th birthday last week.

Cornett was surprised when she went in for her hair appointment at the Cutting Edge Thursday, by a birthday cake and gifts.

In her 100 years, Marie says she remembers many milestones throughout history.
