Pat House Leaves Legacy

A Clay County legend was laid to rest Friday. Though he is gone, his legacy will remain a staple of Clay County’s history.

Pat House, 90, of Manchester, passed away at his home Tuesday.

Pat was well known in the Manchester community as the owner and operator of Pat’s Snack Bar. Established in 1949, Pat’s Snack Bar was, for many years, one of the only restaurants where you could get a burger, chips, and a pop for one dollar.

Pat’s reputation for grilling up delicious burgers has been fastened in Manchester’s past for over 60 years, and will carry on after his death.

Pat is described by his son, Maurice House, as a man of great work ethic and integrity.

“He was a great father, a man of great integrity,” said House.

A long-time friend of Pat, James Phillips, says Pat House was a man he looked up to.

“I looked up to him because he was a basketball player, a business man, and a friend. Pat worked very hard and always had good advice, whether it was about life or finances,” says Phillips.

Slone Faces Charges in State Garage Thefts

A month and a half long investigation into recent thefts from the State Highway Garage led to the arrest of Joseph Slone Monday.

Slone, 27, of Manchester, was charged with two counts of third degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking, says Sheriff Kevin Johnson.

Early in October, Kentucky State Police received a report that various items had been stolen from the State Highway Garage. More than a week ago, the State Highway Department reported even more tools missing, says Sheriff Johnson.
