School improvement plans were delivered by several principals at Monday night’s Clay County Board of Education meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Amon Couch, says Principals throughout the county were given the task of coming up with “improvement plans” for each school, using the same guideline of academic instruction, learning environment, and efficiency.
CCMS Principal Wayne Napier gave his presentation Monday night at the Clay County Board of Education meeting, asserting student/parent apathy was a problem.

Five Eastern Kentucky University students – an undergraduate and four graduate students – earned awards in the 2010 Kentucky Academy of Science Undergraduate and Graduate Research Competition.

Eastern Kentucky University’s nationally ranked mock trial team finished second in a tournament at Washington University in St. Louis Dec. 4-5.
Trailing only the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the EKU team finished ahead of teams from Saint Louis University, Washington University, University of Texas, Drake University, University of Iowa and The Ohio State University, among others.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will be accepting applications for Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships through Feb. 1, 2011. Students who will graduate from a Kentucky high school or earn a diploma through a home school program during the 2010-2011 academic year are eligible to apply. The scholarships are worth up to $1,500 a year for four years of college.
