EU Mock Trial Team Takes Second In Washington University Tourny

Eastern Kentucky University’s nationally ranked mock trial team finished second in a tournament at Washington University in St. Louis Dec. 4-5.

Trailing only the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the EKU team finished ahead of teams from Saint Louis University, Washington University, University of Texas, Drake University, University of Iowa and The Ohio State University, among others.

High School Seniors May Now Apply for Byrd Scholarships

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will be accepting applications for Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships through Feb. 1, 2011. Students who will graduate from a Kentucky high school or earn a diploma through a home school program during the 2010-2011 academic year are eligible to apply. The scholarships are worth up to $1,500 a year for four years of college.

Disel Spill Halts Traffic at "Malfunction Junction"

Downtown traffic was congested for nearly three hours Monday evening at the junction of Highway 421 and Richmond Road, also known as “Malfunction Junction”.

KVE Officer Randy Rader, City Police Officer William Goins, and members of the Manchester Fire Department worked Monday evening to control traffic during a diesel fuel clean-up at Malfunction Junction.

Extension Office Starting New Homemakers Club

The Clay County Extension Office will be starting a new homemakers club, Food Fun Homemakers.  They will be meeting for the first time on January 11, 2011 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

USDA-NRCS IN KENTUCKY ANNOUNCES NEXT RANKING DEADLINE

Each fiscal year, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) sets ranking period dates for applications taken for USDA Farm Bill Programs. Although ranking dates may vary from program to program, landowners may sign-up at any time for all conservation programs.

The next ranking cut-off date is January 28, 2011 and will include applications for both the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
