New Committee to Crackdown on Prescriptions

In lieu of pleas from both rural and urban communities across Kentucky, recently appointed professionals gathered early this month to discuss curbing suspicious drug prescribing habits by doctors.

The KASPER Advisory Council, appointed by Governor Steve Beshear, is focusing on KASPER (the Kentucky All Schedule Electronic Reporting system) and how to utilize it for review of records that could be submitted to medical licensure board for review or criminal investigation.

Laurel County Crash Involves Clay Drivers

Four Flown to UK; Drugs Suspected

Four people were flown to UK Hospital after a car crash in Laurel County Thursday evening.

Around 7:48 PM the Kentucky State Police Post in London received a report of a two-vehicle crash along KY 80 just east of London.

 Remember: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

As you celebrate the holiday season enjoying traditions, food, family and fun, be reminded that state and local law enforcement officers will be out in force this holiday season to arrest anyone caught driving drunk behind the wheel.

“The message is simple: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” said Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) Director Bill Bell.  “As easy as that sounds, unfortunately many drivers still choose to jeopardize their safety and the safety of others on our roads by getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.”

City Sees $23K in First Quarter Alcohol Taxes

The City of Manchester reports that they’ve collected nearly $10,000 in alcohol sales taxes the first quarter since sales began in September.

The first quarter was collected from August to October. Stop N’ Shop, Rite Aid, and Speedway all received retail beer licenses during the month of September.

Stop N’Shop was the first to receive their license on September 9, Speedway received their license on September 16, and Rite Aid received their license on September 26.

Fire Claims 71-Year-Old Building

A suspicious fire has claimed a building in downtown Manchester that has been part of the landscape there for more than 70 years.

The fire began around 11:30 PM Thursday night where all the county Fire Departments, along with the London City Fire Department, responded to the fire on US 421, battling flames well into the Friday morning hours. Manchester Fire Chief Jamey Mills says that when the fire department arrived at the scene, the upstairs of one side of the building had heavy fire.
