Well folks, I’m looking forward to see some sunshine and warm weather. We sure have had a wet spring. The grass sure has growed so fast, it keeps you busy mowing. It sure has been a good hay season.
Well, Sunday was Mothers Day and we thank God for good mothers and we hope for all you mothers that you have had a wonderful day. Just a thought, we wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for our mother.

Well folks, we are having plenty of rain now and the weather is cool. I hope when this spell passes, it will be warm weather. Someone said it was dogwood winter. I don’t know myself about dogwood winter or black berry winter, but one thing I know is that we have had rain and cool spells in May and we will have one or two in June. I can say that we have had plenty of rain this spring, but the good Lord knows what we need.
I got a phone call from my friend, Christine Bowling, from Lousiville, KY. She wanted to know if I had any pictures of the Stable Rocks here in Clay County. I wrote about it some time back, it’s located where Clay, Knox and Laurel County joins together. If you’ve never been there, it’s a good place to go camping it’s in Wild Mountain.
My granny told me why they called it the Stable Rocks. She said the soldiers in the Civil War would put their horses there. One time, some of us boys found an old cannon ball up there at the Rocks. As boys growing up on Whites Branch, we would walk and go to the Stable Rocks and play. I know that the Indians were there because we found arrowheads there.
Thanks Chris for calling me. You and Boots, we grew up together on Whites Branch where we went to school and the one room schoolhouse is still there. It sure is an old landmark, not many are left standing. So many people went to school there. They have church there now.
Chris and Boot’s aunt was the teacher there until they started bussing the kids to big schools. Miss Gladys Lloyd was the teacher there and her children still own the school house. So many people are gone that went to school there. We still have the fond memories growing up on Whites Branch.
Some folks are still sick and in need of prayer: Lee Hicks, Alice Mills, Dorthy Root, June Mills, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Inez Smith, Freda Hacker, Stella Jackson and Jerry Hacker. So when you pray, remember the folks, remember the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes and the ones that have lost a loved one this past week. Our prayers go out to the Jimmy Samples Family. May the Lord bless each of you. I know what it is like to lose a loved one. I sure have lost some too, as so many have.
Maybe next week, I will write more about the Stable Rocks. It’s amazing to see the spring hewed out in the big rock and no matter how hot and dry, we always found water in the spring.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and may He always hold you in His hands. If you want to know where the Stable Rocks are located, call me at 598-6348.

Well folks, I’m wondering when it’s going to warm up. We have plenty of water today, I guess about July we will be wanting some rain. It sure has been a wet cold rain this spring, but the Lord knows what we need. He is still in control. He sends the sunshine and the rain. We never can be satisfied when it gets hot weather, we want cool and when it gets cold, we want it to be warmer.

We have had plenty of rain this past week up here on Upper Horse Creek. We had a flood and here in Clay County it was over the bridges and highways in places and you could ride boats in the fields. But it could have been a lot worse. We here in Kentucky and Clay County all are truly blessed.
I think of what’s happened in other places and I’m thankful that all the children here got home alright through the floods. I know that a lot of bridges and culverts got washed out this past week.

Well folks, I guess spring has got here and it’s a welcome sight to see everything come to life. The flowers are so pretty and the trees are leaving out. To me, spring is the most beautiful time of the year. The birds are singing and the frogs are jumping around and the bees are working and the weather is warm.
