Election almost here

Well folks, the weather sure has changed in the last few days from highs of 76º down to 50º. Seems like it’s cold enough to snow, the rain sure is cold, but the good Lord knows what we need.
Well, the election is getting closer each day. Just one week from this Tuesday, so get out and vote. That’s one privilege that we still have.
Here on the farm, we have a lot of animals like turkeys, squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs and a few deer. I like to watch them play. Our friend, Junior Smith, saw a black bear and two cubs the other day over on Whites Branch. I’ve not seen any here in our country, but some people say that every once and awhile, they see some. There used to be a lot of grouse around here, but we’ve not seen any in a while. I wonder what happened to them?
Well, it won’t be too long until Thanksgiving. That’s when a lot of families get together for dinner and that’s good.
Remember the sick in your prayers this week: Celia Mills, Bobby Hacker, James Brown, Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills and Charlie and Delbert Collins. Remember the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes and the ones that are at home.
The grandbaby is sure growing up too fast. He told me the other night what he wanted Santa Claus to bring him - a big pony, a bridle and saddle, a pair of cowboy boots and a hat. He is a sight. He likes to play in the barn.

Little post offices in the news

Boy, are we having pretty weather now? It would be good to have a warm winter. I sure hope we will, I like spring myself. The lady bugs are here again and plenty of them here at our house. They are everywhere. Well, the grass has slowed down and the lawn mower is getting some rest, but there are plenty of things to do around the farm.
The grand baby is growing up too fast, he’s getting into everything and he rides his jeep and boy he can ride his jeep. He’s learning fast. He likes going to Sunday school and church. Everyone loves him. He likes to take a bath and play in water. He got a haircut yesterday.
The government is talking about the little post offices. They want to keep them open two hours a day. The next thing will be to close them. Ain’t it a sight what they want to do? Where are our rights? Seems like we don’t have any. We had another meeting to discuss about keeping the Hima Post Office open for six hours a day, but we don’t matter here in Clay County to the ones in Frankfort. Well, so much for that.
Remember all the sick: Robert Hacker, Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, James Brown, Trisha Jane Shelton and Lillie Mae Hicks. So pray for all these folks and the ones in the hospital and the nursing homes. Pray for all the ones that have lost a loved one this past week.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Melanie Sizemore and Jake Denson. Also Dale and Amber Denson, they all live up Casey County way. May the good Lord bless you all to have many more.

Help keep Hima Post Office open

Well folks, it’s getting time for people to get out their winter clothing, as we are having cool weather now. People used to decorate for Halloween. They would put up fodder shocks and put pumpkins around the shocks. You don’t see that much anymore, but we’ve got the fodder shocks here at our house and some pumpkins around it. Some people raise big pumpkins.
On TV the other night, a man raised a big, big pumpkin. It weighed a thousand pounds. I wonder how many pies it would make? I guess it was the world record. They had to put big straps around it to load it, the man said it growed 50 lbs. each night. That man had a green thumb to grow a pumpkin that big! I’d sure like to get some of the seed, ha ha.
Well, I got all of the potatoes harvested and they done pretty good. Some weighed 5 lbs. I’ve still got some sweet potatoes left, but they are getting gone. Edsel Hacker and his wife Laura came by last week and got one bushel and a half, he lives in Laurel County. He taught high school in Clay County for many years. He and I went to church together for many years, until he moved to Laurel County. They are good friends, we had a long talk about the past year. As I’ve always said its good to have friends. So many people call me and tell me they enjoy reading my little column each week and folks I appreciate you all so much.
Brother Ray Jackson and his singers will be singing at the House of Prayer on Whites Branch Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Some folks are still sick and need prayer: Waymon and Joyce Mills, James Brown, Edgar Lawson and all the children of Nancy Cox, Von Minton and Mary Perkins. I visited her last week, she is a good person. She and I grew up together on Whites Branch. She had a good laugh. I used to have red hair and I told her that it frosted on my hair and turned it white and she laughed. A lot of people that I went to school with have already gone to meet the Lord. So many each week passing from this life. So folks, if you don’t know the Lord, you better get to know him, because Hell is an awful place. But everyone has a chance in this life. Remember the Helen Hacker Gray family and all the ones that have lost a loved one this past week. Our prayers go out to each of you.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Trisha Smith, William Wilson, Elana Denson, Kelly Hicks and Donald Lee Hubbard. So we wish for all of you the best birthday ever and may the good Lord bless you all to have many more.
Remember folks, all of you that get your mail at the Hima Post Office and you that live in the neighborhood need to come out and show your support on October 15 at 1 p.m. at the Horse Creek Holiness Church as they are talking about closing it. Hayrides are fun

Going on a hayride is lots of fun. Thanks to the Harley Sibert family for the invite to the get-together on their farm yesterday. We took the grandbaby to the get-together; he sure had fun. He likes the big tractors they had. The big long wagon was full of children and grownups too. Johnny Lynn Sibert was the driver of the big 4-wheel drill tractor and it was a big, big one. They had plenty of food and plenty of games too. Everyone enjoyed it. The children were all excited for the hayride. Everyone was so happy it was like a big family get-together. There were a lot of people there, my friend Roscoe Bryant was there on his motorcycle.
I want to say hello to my friend Dewey McQueen, his son and his wife were here Friday getting sweet potatoes. Dewey married Roy Cupps’ sister. I don’t know her name, but Roy was my boss when I worked for the Highway Department. He is a good person, the McQueens are good people too, so Dewey I hope all is well with you and the family.
Tim Biggs was visiting with me on Saturday and we had a long talk. He builds log homes and cabins. He showed me some that he had built and they were beautiful, so if you are planning on building one, give him a call. I’d like to say hello to my good friends, the Smiths and Pilfreys, way up Virginia way. It’s so good to have good friends that care about you. True friends are hard to find these days.

Sibert Homecoming September 29

Well folks, we had frost last night (Saturday) and ice was on the windshield and we will have a big one in the morning, it’s a little early. A lot of people have called about the sweet potatoes and they are good. I’ve dugged five bushels already. If you want any, the first ones that put their order in will get them, so they won’t last long. The Lords willing, I’ll be digging them tomorrow.
It’s good to have friends. I want to say we have got a good school system now. Good school board members and a good superintendent. I know one of the board members, Geraldine “Boots” Smith, I’ve known her all my life. She is a good person and she has helped so many people here in Clay County. She has helped me so many ways. We went to church for 50 years together. Her best interest is for the children of Clay County. So folks, if you have something good, keep it, and I’m so thankful that I have her as my friend.
I’m so thankful for all my friends, real true friends, I’m talking about people that will help you without asking for nothing in return. We had good Sunday school and church services today. The grandbaby is growing up so fast and he is so smart.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Riley K. Smith, he will be 8 years old on September 29, from Bill and Mama, and Elie Broughton. So happy birthday to you both and may the good Lord bless you to have many more.

The Sibert Homecoming will be Saturday, September 29 at the barn in Laurel County starting at 12 p.m. There will be hay rides and gospel singing and lots of games and an auction. Everyone is welcome. Bring a covered dish (with food in it, ha ha.) See you there.
