Well folks, we got some more rain and we sure needed it. The good Lord knows what we need. Our homecoming was really good. Good preaching, good singing, and plenty of good food and we had a good attendance too. We gave God the Glory for everything.

We are blessed here in Clay County. We see so much happening in other places. The drought and fire in Texas and floods everywhere, so people be thankful that it’s not here. But you know we are never satisfied, it’s too hot or too cold.

I’m putting a picture of a big log and me in the paper this week. Back in the spring we had a bad storm and the wind blew some of the trees down here on the lawn. So James Hicks, Oakley Gregory and Kelley Hicks cut the big tree. The biggest log was 14 feet long and it measured more than 1400 feet and there were 3 logs cut from the one tree and it was a big red oak tree. So you see folks, there are some big trees left.

I like the write-up that Tim Biggs put in the paper from Wagon Fork Road. He told the truth, too many people are looking for handouts today, and many have lost their respect. The Bible tells us that we are to make our living by the sweat of our face. So you see folks, not too many works any more and our country is in bad shape.

I’ve worked hard all my life and I’ve never asked for a handout. I believe that if you are able, you should work for a living. I know there are some people that are not able to work, and they are the ones that need help.

Some folks are having birthdays. Brenda Hicks and Anna Bell Smith, the grand daughters of Miss Gearden Boats Smith, her father and mother are Kenny and Renee Smith. So happy birthday to you and may God bless you to have many more. Kelley and Brenda Hicks will be celebrating their anniversary this week. May God bless you both to have many more.

I looked at the pumpkin and the gourd patch and they are everywhere. I really like working in the garden. If you need potatoes, call this number 598-6348 or 598-7812, and they are good. The sweet potatoes are still growing and I got a big bucket full in the home coming that we had today and they are pretty big too. Folks, I raise a big garden. The Roots Branch Church will be having their monthly singing Saturday night, starting at 7 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Remember the ones that are sick. Harley Sibert Waymon, Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Trisha Jane Shelton, Lucy Williams and so many more. Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week, the Roark family and the Napier family. The ones in the nursing homes and the ones in the hospital, so pray for them.

A Lot of Things Are Going On

A lot of yard sales were going on this weekend at Highway 80 from Manchester to London. Clay County is celebrating Come Home to Clay County this weekend and Laurel County is having things this weekend. Also a lot of things are going on this weekend. Many churches will be having home coming this month. Roots Branch will be having a home coming day September 11, starting at 11 AM. Everyone is welcome to attend Gospel singing in the afternoon after dinner. The Easy Bill and Betty Allen Reunion will be September 17 on Saturday at the old home place. The big hog is ready to be fixed, everyone is welcome to attend, so bring a covered dish and some pop or whatever you can. Come on out and enjoy that day, good food, good gospel singing, and afterwards, games like corn hole and horseshoe pitching. Start making plans to come. Its sure been hot the last few days and its awful dry. A lot of people are still sick and in need of prayer, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Landon, Harley and Norma Lee Sibert, Van Minton. Please pray for these folks.

The Horse Creek Holliness Church will be having their home coming September 11, everyone is welcome to attend. We have plenty of potatoes to sell, if you need any, call Lee Hick’s phone number 598-7812 or call 598-6348.

The Good Lord Will Send the Rain

Well folks, in the spring we had too much rain and now we need rain real bad. The little branches are drying up and it’s awfully dry here, but the good Lord will send the rain. He knows what we need. The people that got the bad storms and all that rain, it’s bad, some losing their homes. We should be thankful here in Clay County.

I saw a lot of people down at the funeral home Saturday. A friend of mine passed away, Shade Minton, he had cancer the past few years, so pray for all of the family. So many each week, a lot of people are sick and in need of prayers. Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, also Harley Sibert and Von Minton as she goes for surgery Thursday at Lexington, so pray for all of them. You know the good Lord still answers prayers.

A lot of things will be going on this coming weekend as its Come Home to Clay County Days.

Our roads on Roots Branch sure need fixing. We need two bridges and the roads need to be ditched and some places need black top. It’s a shame to have good roads and let them go back to the dirt. I’ll ask this question, where does our tax money go? Its sure not put on much of our roads. A lot of people have asked me to put it in my column.

We’ve got good schools here in Clay County for our children. We need good roads too for our children to travel on. Folks, it’s a shame to have bad roads.

We Need to Love One Another

Well folks, it won’t be long until Fall will be here. Most of the flowers have dried up and gone. I got a letter from my good friend Sara Pelfrey up Virginia Way and it’s always good to hear from your friends.

She was asking about the gourds. Well Sarah, the gourds are running everywhere and climbing up trees, I have never seen so many. The big bushel gourds and the big birdhouse gourds too. Thanks again Sarah, for all you have done for us.

The Roots Branch Church will be having their monthly meeting Thursday night at 6:30 down at Laurel Creek Nursing Home. Also, the Roots Branch Church will be having Home Coming day September 11, starting at 11:00 AM. Everyone is welcome to attend, so be making plans to come and worship with us.

A lot of folks are sick and are in need of prayers. Harly Sibert, Edgar Lawson, George Hoskins, Wayman and Joyce Mills, also James Brown and Carl Hibbad. So many each week. Pray for all the ones that have lost a loved one this past week. Remember the ones that are in the hospital and the ones that are in the nursing homes.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Johnny Lyn Sibert and Susan Whitis, also Denver Smith. So Happy Birthday to you all and may God bless you all to have many more. We love you all, from all your family and friends.

Well, squirrel season opened Saturday morning, but I didn’t hear any gunfire around the farm. I used to hunt, but I don’t anymore. I used to coon hunt too, and I really like to, but not many people hunt anymore and the coons eat my sweet corn up. It’s hard to keep the coons and the crows out of the corn patch.

As the Bible says, love your neighbors as yourself, and do to them as you wand them to do to you. If you want a good friend, be a good friend. Today, we need to love one another more as God tells us to do.

It’s Hard To find True Friends

Well folks, we got another good rain last night and we sure needed it. It was getting dry again. The late garden will make it before the frost comes. The pumpkins already getting big, the squash are growing, and the gourds are growing and running everywhere.
My friends Lois Smith and the Pelfry way up Virginia way sent me the Big Bird house gourds and the Big Burshell gourds. It’s amazing to see them grow. Those people are truly my friends. They have been so good to me and my family, its hard to find true friends these days.
A special young lady will be celebrating her birthday, Thursday, August 18. She is the youngest granddaughter of Gerldine “Boots” Smith. Her name is Chaney Ann Garrison, and she lives in Mt. Sterling, KY. Boots is so proud of her grandchildren, and she has always been my friend. So Happy Birthday Miss Chaney and may God bless you to have many more. This is from all your family and friends, we love you! Also, a Happy Birthday goes out to Shawn Allen. He lives in Somerset. He will be celebrating his Birthday this week. God bless you to have many more.
A man called me from Indiana. His name was Rudolph Kaplan. He said he read the Enterprise and he was asking me about Roy Allen. He said he missed Roy’s Column. So many people from out of state receive the Enterprise to keep up with things from Clay Co.
Well, so many people are still sick and in need of prayer at this time. Harley and Norma Lee Sibert, Wayman and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, and George Hoskins. So pray for them. Remember the ones that are in the hospital, the ones in the nursing homes, the ones that have lost a loved one this past week, and also remember Delbert Collins, who is sick.
