Minton Family Reunion July 16^th

Well folks, Monday was the 4^th of July. A lot of people celebrated Saturday and Saturday night and some waited until Monday A lot of people from out of state came back to Kentucky to visit their family and friends and that is good.

The reunion went well Sunday down at the park. A lot of the family was present and a lot of good food and good gospel singing. We had a cemetery meeting Monday at the mountain graveyard and a good number were present. Bill Goins did a good job making seats and tables at the shelter house. We didn’t have to take tables or chairs this year and thanks go out to Bill for the job he did.

Clara Bell Sizemore was there at the meeting, she is a sight. I meet a lot of friends at Wal-Mart and the grocery store and they tell me they enjoy reading my little column each week and I appreciate all of you.

I don’t have any birthdays this week. Some folks are still sick and in need of prayer, Wayman and Joyce Mills, and Edgar Lawson. Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week.

It was sad to hear of Allie Hoskins passing away. She was a good friend. So pray for George and his family. I know the Lord can take care of everything. He’s been there for me. As I’ve always said, “If you have had trouble, just hold your base, it will come your way”.  I’ve surely had my share of trouble and heartache and I know many of you have too.

On Saturday, July 16^th, the Oakley and Dora Minton Family will be having a family reunion at Rawlings & Stinson Park at 1 pm. So be making planes to be there. Bring a covered dish, plates, napkins, cups, drinks or ice. If you have fun outdoor activities for kids or adults, please bring them too. It’s always good for family to get together. Hope to see everyone there.

Remember the ones that are in the hospital and the nursing home and the ones that are at home. Well I’ll stop for this time. May God bless you all and God bless America and may he always hold you in his hands.

Upper Horse Creek Happenings 6-23-11

Folks I’m sorry for not writing my little column last week, there was just so may things to do on Monday morning.  Well I’ve been pretty busy, something to do all the time, but we should be thankful that we are able to work and to go.

I’ve not been fishing this Spring and Summer, but I’m getting ready to go if the good Lords willing.  We all need a little R and R once in a while.  The Lord is so good to us all.

The Minton, Barnard, Gregory, Wilson, Sizemore, and Goins Reunion will be Saturday, July 2^nd at the Beech Creek Park starting at 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Please bring a covered dish and lets enjoys a good time together once again.  All is welcome to attend.

Some folks are having birthdays.  Dimicra Allen and also Daugh Wesley Sizemore.  So Happy Birthday to you and may God Bless you to have many more.  From all your family and friends.

The Gourds I planted are growing and starting to Vine and the garden is coming along pretty good.  Out of the garden we’ll have onions, Lettuce, Mustard, Peas, New Potatoes, Cabbage, and about a week from now we will have Green Beans.  I also picked a bucket of Raspberries the other day to make Pies.

To me, it is good to have a garden to get fresh vegetables out of.  It takes a lot of work to raise a big garden but I enjoy it.

We are getting plenty of rain lately and the weeds and grass sure are growing, so that means more work mowing, plowing, and weed cutting.  There’s always plenty of work to do around here.

Some folks are still sick and in need of prayer, these include Wayan and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Johnny Bill Marcum, Harley and Norma Sibert, and Lee Hicks, so pray for them.  Remember the ones that have lost a loved one.  It’s sad to hear about so many young people passing from this life.  Our Corner, Parker Corum said about eight young people in the past two months have pasted here in Clay County.  Our Prayers go out to the families.

He Cares, So We Should Too

We are having rain again and it’s cool now.  The old folks said that it is Black Berry Winter.  Maybe after this spell has passed, we can have warmer weather.  I hope so.

As I said last week about the honeybees, I’ve put 10 swarms in new homes already this year.  I’m keeping busy.  There is something to do around the place everyday.

The garden is growing and the weeds and grass are growing as well.  And the bugs are getting on the potatoes, beans, and tomatoes.  I’ll have to get the sprayer out and start spraying for the insects.  It keeps one busy.

The Roots Branch Church will be having their monthly singing this Saturday night at 7:00pm.  Everyone is welcom to attend.

Some people are sick and in need of prayer; Lee Hicks, Trisha Jane Shelton, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Harley Sibert, Edgar Lawson, Junior Reynolds, James Brown, and Fridia Hacker.  So pray for them and remember the ones in the hospitals and the nursing homes.  Also remember the ones that have lost a loved on this past week.

We should have love and compassion for one another.  You know God still loves us and he cares, so we should too.

I want to say hello to my friends, the Pelfreys, way up Virginia way.  They are my friends and they get the Enterprise.  They tell me how they enjoy reading my little write-up with the things here in Clay County.  We thank all of the ones from out of state for taking the paper.  I also want to thank the staff at The Manchester Enterprise for helping me with my column.

Here are the birthdays this week:  To my good friends Geraldine Boats Smith.  She will celebrate her birthday Wednesday the 18^th.  So we wish for you the best birthday ever and may God bless you to have many more.  From family and friends.

UHCH

Well folks, its sure been pretty weather the last few days and I’m glad to see it.  The flowers are so pretty and the black berries are blooming and maybe we can pick some to make pies and make jelly.  Not many people pick them anymore.  When I was a boy going to school at Whites Branch, we would take black berry jelly and biscuits for lunch at the one room school house where Miss Gladys Lloyd was our teacher and the little school house still stands today.  Not many are left to see anymore.  The are all gone.  Sometimes as I pass by the school house it brings back memories.  A lot of people that I went to school with are gone.  We had a lot of good times in the schoolhouse.  I’ll mention some that I went to school with;  Boats Hacker Smith, Ted Gross, Safford Gross, the Smiths, the Chadwells, the Cottongims, the Hicks, the Browns, The Lawsons, the Collins, the Burns Family, the Mills, the Isom Family, the Sprous Family, the Taylor Family, the Sizemore Family, the Miller Family, and so many more and Boat’s aunt, Miss Gladys, taught them all.  She was a good teacher.  You can ask Boats about her.  She didn’t have any picks in school, she made us take the mark and I’m so thankful for her today.  Every morning she would have us say a bible verse.  How many teachers today tell the children about the Lord?  Just a thought.

We hear of so many young people dying today.  When I was growing up, we never heard of drugs, but today we hear about it everyday.

Well some people are having birthdays; Leah Sizemore and Healey Spurlock; also our great grand baby will have on May 17^th.  We will be one year old and he gets into everything.  The toys he likes is are hammers, wire pliers, a screwdriver, and things like that.  We wish for all of them the best birthday ever and may God bless you all to have many more

I saw a lot of friends down at the courthouse the other day.  Its always good to meet friends and get to talk with them.

Our prayers go out to all the families that have lost a love one this past week.

The garden is coming along good.  The Lord is so good to us all.

I’m hoping that the gas prices will come down and the food prices too.  I’ll be thankful if the county will ditch and fix the roads up Roots Branch.  The water is running across the roads in some places and the black top is going back to the dirt.  Maybe they will fix them this summer.  The sure need to.
