Spring is just around the corner

Spring time is just around the corner and I love spring. Some of the Easter flowers are blooming and the Blue Birch and Robins have come back. I’m sure I saw a butterfly, too. I never saw one before in February and the frogs started hollering.
Well, it’s time to plow the gardens and getting things ready to plant. It’s good to have garden stuff. It’s hard work to grow a big garden, but I like working around the farm. The grandboy is sure growing, he’s not a baby anymore and he also likes it here on the farm and he loves going to church. He’s my little helper around the place. He tells me, “Let me do that!” He gets into everything. He likes riding his pawl and all his toys too.
Daugh and Lucy Pearl Gregory and son were here this weekend. Lucy Pearl had a niece to pass away, her name was Birtha Francis Hoskins. So our prayers go out to the Hoskins family and all who lost a loved one this past week.
I want to thank all the staff at the Enterprise for helping me with my write up.
Some people are still sick and need prayers: Waymon and Joyce Mills, Charlie Collins, Sylvester Mills, Stella Jackson and Shanon McGee. Remember the ones in the hospitals and the nursing homes.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Sheena Ealy, Faye Blair, Norma Lee Sibert and Johnathan Dezarn. Also our granddaughter Emily Rayne Center way up Indiana way. So may the good Lord bless you all to have many more.
May the good Lord bless you and may He forever hold you in His hands

As a boy we had time to talk with our neighbors

Well folks, as I’m writing my column I’m thinking about when I was a boy growing up on Whites Branch how we, the people, have changed. We had time to talk to our neighbors and the people loved one another. I wonder what happened? Today we have telephones and everything so modern. Someone can die and be buried before you know about it today. People don’t have compassion for one another and that’s the truth.
When I was a boy, people depended on one another for help. Today, they look for the government to help. What is going to happen when the money is gone? Just a thought.
I never got a handout from the government. I worked all my life and I’m thankful to the good Lord for making me able to work. It’s so amazing to see how things have changed over the years.
The bible says that if a man doesn’t work and provide for his family, he is worse than an infidel and he’s denied the faith. That’s what the bible says. I’m afraid folks that the handouts are going to run out one of these days. What then? Well, so much for that.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Daugh Sizemore, JR and Calista Sizemore and Trisha Jane Shelton. I want to say hello to my good friend Gearldine “Boots” Smith and wish her a happy day and to my friends the Pelfreys and Smiths way up Virginia way. I hope all is well with you folks. Sarah, my wife, will send you the recipe for “cathead” biscuits one of these days.
The grandboy is making so many friends at church. He really enjoys going to Sunday school and church. You should see the little ones as they get up and sing with me. The Lord is so good to us all. I wish that all parents and grandparents would take their children to Sunday school and church, it would make a difference in their lives.
I’m sorry that I didn’t get to put my write up in the paper last week, the reason that I didn’t was that my brother had passed away last Monday morning. As they always say, “We all have our trouble, but if you have the Lord in your life, he will see you through the trouble and trials.”
Some folks are sick and in need of prayer: Waymon and Joyce Mills, Celia Mills, Stella Jackson and Lee Hicks. Remember the ones in the hospitals and the nursing homes.
So when you pray, remember all the ones that have lost a loved one.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Getting closer to spring

Well folks, we sure have had plenty of bad weather the last few days. Plenty of ice and the roads sure was bad, but we are getting closer to spring. Spring is what I like, when everything comes to life. The grass starts to get greener and the trees start to bud and the Easter flowers starts to come up.
Around April, it sure is a pretty time of the year. The Red Bud trees start to bloom and the birds start singing. It’s amazing to see all the things that God has made. I can’t wait for spring where I can get out of the house and start doing some things I need to do around the farm and there is plenty of work to do. I like working in the garden and tilling the ground. To me it’s a wonderful time of the year.
Lee Hicks said he had plenty of seasoned fire wood for sale. If you need any, give him a call and he will deliver it for you. Call 598-7812.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Diane Carpenter, Travis Holland, Tippe Broughton and Danny Ray Senters. So we wish for all of you the best birthday ever and may the good Lord bless you all to have many more.
Please remember all the sick, the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes and the ones that have lost a loved one: Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Denver Smith and Charlie Collins.
May the good Lord bless and keep you and may he always hold you in His hands

Remember the sick

Well folks, the Lord is so good to us here in Clay County. They have had ice storms and snow storms all around us, but we have not. So many schools closed because of floods or ice storms and we didn’t have to. The Lord has blessed us so much, and let’s be thankful for all of His blessings. So many people each week tell me they enjoy my little write up. So many people from out of state get the Enterprise and they keep up with things going on here in our county and they read everything in the paper, they tell me.
The grandbaby has been really sick the last few weeks, but he is getting a little better now. He has been to the doctor every week and I’ve been sick as well. So many people are down with the flu.
So many people are still sick and in need of prayer: Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Lee Hicks and Jimmy Hicks and Carl Gay. So when you pray, remember all these and pray for us too.
We had a good singing at our church last night. The good Lord is so good to us. If you don’t have a church to attend, we invite you all to come and worship with us at Roots Branch Baptist Church. Sunday school at 10:30 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. and Sunday night at 7 p.m. and every third Saturday night we have our singing. So come and be with us, everyone is welcome.
I want to say hello to our good friend Brother Sill Lee and his wife, and to all the Carl Gay family down Bull Skin way. Carl has been sick for a while. Our prayers that you will get better Carl. I worked with his son Kevin and got to know most of his family and also the Pelfreys way up Virginia way, they have been so good to us. And to all of you that read my column. I’m so grateful for all of you. Through the paper, I’ve made so many friends, some I’ve never seen, but they call and tell me how they look forward to reading my little column.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to our preacher, Brother George Blair, he will be celebrating his birthday January 22 so God bless you to have many more and Fays, you bake him a big cake and we love you both. From your church family.
Remember the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes and for all the ones that have lost a loved one this past week. From our house to your house, may the good Lord richly bless you and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Feels like spring already

Well folks, it’s the middle of January and we’ve not had much winter yet. We’ve been blessed so far. It’s like March weather here now. We have had rain the last several days and warm temperatures. The grass here is so pretty and green.
Here at our house, we all have bad colds. The grandbaby first started sneezing and coughing. We took him to the doctor, he had the strep throat and vomiting. But he’s getting a little better now and I got what he had, sore throat, coughing and sneezing and vomiting. A lot of people have the flu. It must be a virus going around, so pray for us that we will get better.
Remember all the sick: Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Lee Hicks and Jim Hicks and a lot of folks in church are sick with the flu, so pray for them.
Happy anniversary to Landon and Virginia McDaniel this week. Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Clay and Gertrude Lawson and Johnny “Poss” Gregory the 14, Marus Trenton Lewis, Robert Turblefield, Gary Edward Metzger, Daugh Gregory and Carmen Fields. May the good Lord bless you to have many more.
We should stop and count our blessings each and every day the Lord is good to us. The grandbaby is so good in church, he acts like a grown up. You should see him sing and play and he learns so fast.
Pray for all the sick and shut-ins, the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes and for all who have lost a loved one. May the good Lord bless you and may He forever hold you in his hands.
