The Gospel Travelers
Looking back in the past years, the Gospel Travelers formed a group about 37 years ago. Preacher Earl Hammons was the pastor at New Home Church at that time and he suggested that we start a group of singers, so we did. The names of the group were Clay Lawson, Imogen Lawson, Kim Hughes, Dillard and Amanda Couch, Bill King, Clayton and Dollie Gross, and Orville Mills.
As the years went by, some went on to be with the Lord. Clayton died first, then Bill King, then Imogen also. Dollie next, now Dillard as he passed away this week. Four out of five died from cancer; Bill, Imogen, Dollie, and Dillard. A lot of things have happened since then. We traveled everywhere to churches to sing for the Lord.
We went to nursing homes and a lot of funerals everywhere. Later on Brother Roy Allen became our pastor at New Home Church and he joined the group to sing Bass, and Mike Cheek played the banjo for a few years. Sylvester Mills played the banjo with the group a long time. Lloyd Gibson played bass for the group for a while and Charlie and Darlene Hubbard sing with the group. We traveled many miles singing for the Lord. Today the group is now Clay Lawson, Gary Smallwood, and Robert Tuberfield.
I’ve spent most of my life working for the Lord and I don’t regret a mile traveling and singing for the Lord. I’ve had ups and downs, but through it all the good Lord has blessed me and I thank and praise him and to God be the glory.
I want to thank everyone for helping us with your support. We made records, eight track tapes, cassettes, and CDs. Brother David Lundy recording helped us with the recordings. A lot of people have been a blessing to me over the years.
Some people are still sick and need your prayers. Harley Sibert, Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, and Denver Smith.
Happy anniversary goes out to James and Kim Hicks on the 6th of November.
Birthday wishes go out this week to Tina Sheets, Glenn Smith, Tabiathy Hubbard, Brook Desiree, James Hicks, and John Welley Sibert. So all of you have a great anniversary and birthday and may God bless you to have many more, from all of your family and friends.
As the elections come Tuesday, go out and vote. Vote for the one you think will be best for our county and state.
I’m getting a lot of calls from people that read the paper, telling me how much they enjoy it. Thanks everyone. A lady came by Saturday from Ohio, she said she was a Reed and that she married a Robinson. She said she was raised here in Clay County and she gets the paper. You all mean so much to me.
If you need fire wood for winter, Lee Hicks has plenty, just call 598-7812.
Well, I’ve had the grandbaby this weekend and we took him to Sunday school and church. He plays his little guitar. He is a sight, and how I’ve spoiled him.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May God bless you and may the good Lord forever hold you in His hands.

Well folks, seems like we are having a little cold weather lately. When I got up this morning, the ground was white with a big frost and there was ice too. Some states have got snow already and it won’t be long until we will get some snow too. A lot of people don’t have any electricity in the northeast. We are blessed here in Clay County.
Lee Hicks has plenty of firewood for sale, so if you need any as winter comes on, just give him a call. His number is 598-7812 and he will deliver it for you.
A lot of people are sick and in need of prayers. Dillard Couch is in the hospital at London at this time, and Denver Smith got out of the hospital yesterday, he had stints put in. Also, Edgar Lawson needs prayers and Harley Sibert, Waymon and Joyce Mills as well. So many each week. Pray for the ones that have lost a loved one this week, the Ida Brown family, the Curry family, the Senters family, and all the others this week.
Folks, don’t forget to pray for all those that are sick, the ones that are in the hospitals, the nursing homes, the ones that are at home and the ones that have lost a loved one.
The good Lord is so good to us all. If you have trouble, the Lord will help you through all your troubles and trials.
The time seems to be flying by. I got a call from my friend Gerldine Boots Smith. Thanks Boots for calling me, it’s always good to hear from your friends. Good friends are hard to find these days.
I’m looking for some Griswald Skillets, if you have any, call me at 598-6348 and if the price is right, I will buy them.
I want to say hello to Daugh and Lucy Pearl Gregory up Michigan way, they got the paper to keep up with the things here in Clay County. So many people from out of the state get the paper. I want to also say hello to the Pelfreys way up Virginia way. They truly are our good friends, and I want to thank them for all they have done for us.
So many people call me each week and say they enjoy reading my little column. Thank you all, I truly appreciate every one of you. The staff at the Enterprise are so good to me, and I thank them for helping me.
The grandbaby is growing up so fast and getting into everything. He likes to help me work on the farm equipment and he carries the tools out of the barn and leaves them everywhere. He is a sight! I can’t even tighten a bolt unless he’s right there trying to help me. He wants to fix everything, but I love him to death and I’ve spoiled him big time.
There will be a revival starting next week at Mt. Carmal Baptist Church. Landan McDaniel is the pastor, everyone is welcome to attend. Charles Gross is going to preach, it starts at 7 PM.
We want to thank everyone for coming out Thursday night at the Horse Creek Holliness church to support for keeping the Hima Post Office open. Aint it a shame that people want to take away every good thing that we have. Soon, we won’t have anything. It’s high time that the people should stand up for our rights!
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May God richly bless you and God bless America and may He hold you in His hands.

Well folks, I’m so sorry I didn’t get to write my column last week, something came up and I forgot to put it in the paper. Thanks to Rodney Miller for calling me, it’s always good for the staff for checking up on me.
Well, we had a big frost this morning and yesterday morning too, and the leaves are everywhere on the ground. Some trees don’t have any on them now. I sure hope we have a mild winter, but the good Lord knows what is best for us. As winter comes on and you need some firewood, Lee Hicks has plenty of Hickory and Oak seasoned ready for the fireplace. So if you need any, he will deliver it for you, just give him a call at 598-7812.
The grand baby is growing up so fast. He is talking a lot now. He sure is a handful and hard to keep up with. I take him to Sunday school and church.
I got to meet our new judge, Joe Asher, the other day. He is a kind and friendly man and I want to thank the county for cutting the roads off. It’s been a long time since they have been cut off. They did a good job and I want to tell them for myself, I sure appreciate them. Our county has a lot of roads and bridges to maintain and it takes a lot of work and money to keep them up, so thanks Joe and all the workers for a good job.
I have a couple of bushels of potatoes for sale, both Irish and sweet potatoes for sale. Call at 598-6348 if you need any.
A lot of people are still sick. Dellard Couch, Denver Smith, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Marshal Cottingim, and Harley Sibert, so pray for them. The Roots Branch will be going down to the Laurel Creek Nursing Home Thursday night to have church. Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week, the “Cookie” France family.
Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Goldie Cox Griffin on October 26th from family and friends. Also 78, Bradley and Melany Sizemore and Jake Denson and Amber and Del Denson. So happy birthday to all of you and may God bless you all to have many more.
I want to thank the staff of the Enterprise for helping me with my little write up, they are so good to me. Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and God Bless America and may He forever hold you in His hands.
Happy Birthday Goldie Cox Griffin!
From Family and friends
She feels great cause she has hit the big 58!

We are having beautiful weather lately; the lord is so good to us. All the trees are so pretty in the hills. It’s amazing to look at God’s creations.
Well, the baby went back home, but we got to keep him for three days and nights. He wants to help me work on the farm machines he carries the tools everywhere. He sure is hard to keep up with, but he is a bundle of joy, and when he goes home I miss him.
There is a lot of work raising the garden, but I like working in the garden. I’ve already plowed the gardens up. I like for the ground to freeze in the winter. It kills a lot of insects when you till the ground in the winter and it won’t be too long until we will be having cold weather.
Well, I got the potatoes dug and if anyone wants any, I’ve got about four or five bushels of fresh potatoes left and I’ve got plenty of sweet potatoes. If you want some, call 598-6348.
I got a call this week from my friend, Wanda Jones. She said they would be having their 50th wedding anniversary at the Rawling and Stinson Park from 1 PM to 5 PM, so folks bring a covered dish and come and help them celebrate their anniversary. There will be gospel singing and pickin’ and grinin’.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Elana Denson, Kelly Hicks, Donald Lee Hubbard, and Cecil and Matthew Mills. They are twin boys. We wish for you all the best birthday ever, and may God bless you all to have many more.
A lot of people are sick and in need of prayer. Harley Sibert Waymon, Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Dillard Couch, Junior Mills, and Sue Collins. Pray for the ones in the hospitals and the nursery homes. Pray for the families that have lost a loved one this past week. So many are passing from this life, and the main thing people can do is to be ready to go.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May God richly bless you, and God bless America. May He always hold you in His hands.

Well folks, here at our house, we turned the heat on. This morning the frost could be seen on the house tops, the first frost this season! We can say that fall is here for sure and soon, it will be winter. The leaves are falling everywhere, its wonderful to see all the trees when the leaves turn their colors. So many different colors. Its great to see what the good Lord has made.
As He always said, it’s good to have friends. I got a letter from my good friend Sarah Pelfrey way up Virginia Way. Thank you again Sarah for everything. I’ve harvested the gourds, they are so pretty, and Sarah I’ve given away a lot. The children come and they want some, and I got a lot of hugs, so Sarah you made that happen. As the Bible says, it’s better to give and we should give him glory and praise.
I want to thank everyone for calling me and writing me, telling me how they enjoy reading my little column. The grandbaby is growing like a weed and getting into everything. I made a big fodder shock and put the pumpkins and gourds around them and the baby rolls them everywhere. He is a sight!
I’d like to say folks, we are so blessed here in America and we should be more thankful to our good Lord. He gives quite us the things we need. A lot of people burn coal or wood for heat in the winter. If you need any firewood, Lee Hicks has plenty oak and hickory cut and split up. His number is 598-7812. Call him, the price is $40 a load if you come get it, or he will deliver for $50 a load.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Patrisha Smith, my nephew Albert Lawson, Christopher Gibson, William Welson, and Johnny Hues. We wish all of you the best birthday ever, and may God bless you all to have many more.
A lot of people are still sick and in need of prayer. Von Minton, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Cable Wilson, Edgar Lawson, and Harley Sibert. Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week. Sammie Minton’s family and Eugene Hensley and family. So pray for all of these people, pray for all the ones in the hospital, and the ones that are in the nursing home.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May God richly bless you and your family. God bless America and may He forever hold you in His Hands.
