Upper Horse Creek Happenings

Trials, Sickness, and Troubles

Well folks, I’m sorry for not putting my write up in the paper last week, my wife was sick. Sometimes we have trials, sickness, and troubles, but my wife is getting better now. We want to thank you all for your prayers and for the ones that came to the hospital to see her and for the ones that called. I want to thank the staff at the Enterprise and Rodney Miller who called about my column. It’s always good to know that someone misses you. Well, it’s spring time for sure, as the grass is growing so fast. I’ve mowed the lawn three times already. Some of the trees are blooming, the Red Buds and Dogwoods and the flowers are so pretty. You know it’s such a blessing just to see God’s creations, the things he has made. Well, the garden is coming along pretty well. I’ve planted potatoes, onions, cabbage, and peas, and we fixed the sweet potato bed and got them out. Some people say that they can’t find anything to do around the house, but I sure can. There’s always something to do around the place here. So many people are still sick. Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Harley Sibert, Junior Mills, Ora Henson, and Denver Smith. So pray for these folks. We got the grandbaby the past week, he sure is a handful, getting into everything. Happy belated birthdays go out to Payton Bess Garrison, Lucy Peal Gregory, Lee Hicks, and Riley Chandler Broughton. May God bless you all to have many more. Happy anniversaries go out to Daugh and Lucy Pearl Gregory up Michigan way. May the good Lord bless you two to have many more. Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Time Went Forward Once Again

Well folks, the time went forward one hour again, and by the time we get used to it, it will be changed back. They should leave it alone. It sure has been pretty and warm and the butterflys have been everywhere today. This kind of weather I like.
Well, it’s time to be planting some garden things. Cabbage, onions, potatoes, peas, mustard and lettuce. It sure is good to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful sunshine and warm weather once again. We should always be thankful for what the good Lord gives us.
So many people are still sick and in need of prayers. George Blair, Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Brother Hacker, Von Minton, Ora Henson, Amy Harris, and Tina Sheets. So pray for these folks. Harley Sibert is doing better and James Brown is better. God still answers prayers.
Some folks are having birthdays this week. Teresa Hoskins had a birthday on Sunday, March 11. Caleb Wilson’s was March 12 and Kayden Hubbard will be 1 on Saturday, also Stephen Centers. So to all of you, may you all have the best birthday ever and may you be blessed to have many more.
Let’s remember Fabian Wilson’s family. To all of you that sent out a flower or said a prayer and the ones that brought food or helped in any way, to the ones that sang the songs and the preachers that preached, Brother Landon McDanials and Brother Bobby Tenny. We want to thank Evelyn Dezarn and the Horse Creek Fire Department, the Clay County Ambulance Service, the Coroner, and the Britton Funeral Home. From all the Wilson family, thanks and may God bless you all for the kindness that was shown.
We had the grand baby for this weekend and boy is he a handful. You should see him as he tries to play the guitar and the banjo. I believe he will be a good player one of these days. I sure hope so, he sure is interested, all he talks about is the guitar and banjo.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. Thank you all for reading my little write up, I sure do appreciate you all. May God Bless and keep you, and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Cousin and her husband killed in last week's tornado

Boy, what weather we are having lately, 70º and sunshine one day, and the day after, 30º and snow. Last week, some counties had tornadoes and it was bad in Laurel County. My first cousin and her husband were killed. It’s something to see the destruction that a storm does. Our prayers go out to all the people that were in the storm. So many people were hurt, some lost a leg, an arm or an eye. We were blessed here in Clay County, but it could be us the next time. It only takes a few seconds for the storm to hit and wipe out everything in its path.
A lot of schools are closed today, a little snow is over the ground and the weather will be only 36º today, but it will be getting warmer as each day goes by and spring draws nearer. That will be good.
We had the grand-boy for the weekend. Last week we took him to the doctor for a check up and I saw my good friend Billy Jones at the doctor’s office for a check up too. We had a long talk about the past years and how things have changed over the past few years.
Billy has always been a true friend. He helped me get a job on the highway department where I retired. He was a magistrate for years, and he was a fox hunter too. I’ll tell you, it’s hard to find true friends these days. I thank the good Lord for my friends.
A lot of people are still sick, Edgar Lawson, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Harley Sibert, and Ora Henson. So many more that need prayers, so pray for all the sick and the ones that were in the storms. A lot of people lost their homes and everything they had. Remember the ones in the hospitals, the nursing homes, the ones at home and the ones that lost a loved one.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to preacher Owen Smith up Knox County way, and Lillie Mae Hicks and Wanda Johnson. So to you all, have the best birthday ever and may God richly bless you all with many more.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and God bless America and may He forever hold you in His hands.

The Easter Flowers are already blooming

Well friends, I didn’t get to write my column last week. We had a big snowfall and it was wintertime again. It was the biggest snow that we have had this season. We got 7 inches here at our house and it was slick. That’s the reason I didn’t take my write up Monday morning, I’m sorry about that.
We can’t complain much; we have had it pretty good so far. Not much snow, March will be here, springtime is getting closer and that means work around the place. The Easter flowers are already blooming and the others night we saw the toad frogs out, but this morning it was 27 degrees. We may get another snow, but it won’t last long now that it’s getting warmer each day.
We get the grandbaby every weekend and we take him to Sunday school and church. He likes Gospel Blue Grass music. He’s trying to play the banjo and he’s not 2 years old yet. His little fingers are getting tough as he plays the banjo.
A lot of folks are sick and in need of prayer. Harley Sibert, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Ora Henson and James Brown and his daughter Sonya. She is getting better, she got to come home this past week. A lot of people have had viruses and colds, so pray for all these people and the ones that you know that are sick. Remember the ones that are in the hospital, the nursing homes, and the ones at home. So many that are sick and in need of prayers.
I want to thank the staff at the Enterprise for helping me with my write-up, they are so good and I want to thank each of you for reading my little column.
Boy, some friends know how to catch the big fish! For one, Danny Wade Jarvis sure caught a big muskie a few days ago. Boy it was a big one and did you see the big teeth that fish had? It was a monster fish, way to fish Danny. It won’t be too long until the stripers will be hitting the baits.
Well, it won’t be long now until we can start the gardens, the onions, potatoes, and the peas.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Sheena Ely, Faye Blair, Norma Lee Sibert, Jonathan Dezarn and Emily Rayne Senters, our granddaughter. So happy birthday to you all and may God bless you all to have many more.
The gas prices sure have gone up this past week. They say that the US has plenty of oil and gas, why don’t the government drill for gas and oil here in the USA and we wouldn’t have to depend on other countries for oil and gas. It’s a shame that we have to depend on them for oil and gas.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and God bless America and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Old Man Winter

Old Man Winter

Well folks, Old Man Winter is still here. It sure has been cold this weekend and there’s snow on the ground, but we can’t complain too much because we have had good weather so far. I can’t wait until spring comes and that will be a lot of work around the place, like planting the garden, mowing the yard and working in the flower beds. You can always find something to do around the house if you want to.
It was sad to hear about Preacher Roy Allen passing. He was a dear friend and he will be missed. He was a man that always wanted to be busy, and he was always on the go. He sang with the Gospel Travelers for many years and we recorded tapes at Lundy Recording and we made CDs. We went to the nursing home for many years and his wife Barbara was always by his side. We went to a lot of churches to sing and she never complained, not once. Preacher Roy had a good education, but he never forgot his upbringing. He helped me in so many ways.
He loved raising his garden and planting flowers for Barbara. One time he told me he would like to get him some honey bees and he got him some bee hive bodies and I put him in some swarms of bees in the hives and he always liked his bees. He was a simple man, and if he could help you, he would. You can’t find many people like Preacher Roy was today. As I said, he sure will be missed. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the Allen family.
We saw a lot of our friends at the funeral home. So many people that we know go out each week to meet the Lord. A lot of people are sick and in need of prayers at this time, Edgar Lawson, Von Minton, Landon McDaniel, Susan Whitis, Waymon and Joyce Mills, Ora Henson, and James Brown. So pray for all the sick and shut ins, for the ones in the hospitals, and the nursing homes. I want to tell you, if you have never had sickness or death in your family, just hold your base, you will.
I’ve heard some people say I don’t need anybody to help me. Well, I do. I need friends to help me, and I always need the good Lord everyday of my life. He sure has been good to me and you will need him too.
We got the grandbaby with us this week and we went to Sunday school and church today. I wish everyone would go to Sunday school and church. Just a saying, we need to look for the good in a person and not find a fault. The bible tells us that we are to love one another, as God loves us.
I’ve got one birthday this week, Trisha Jane Shelton, who lives up Somerset way. She will be celebrating her birthday this coming Thursday, so have a good birthday Trisha, and may God Bless you to have many more. We love you.
The Roots Branch Church will be having their monthly singing this Saturday night starting at 7:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you, and God bless America and may He forever hold you in His hands.
