Upper Horse Creek Happenings

Old Man Winter

Old Man Winter is still with us, and a lot of churches cancelled out their service today because of bad weather, but we had Sunday School today and worship services also and tonight too. We didn’t get as much snow as some people did. The Lord is so good to us.
We got some birthday cards this week and we are grateful for them. From Brother Roy Allen down Sacker Way and also our friend Gerldene Boats Smith up Blue Hole Way. It’s good to have friends to remember you on your birthday.
We had a good time and some friends came by to help us celebrate our birthday. We took the grand boy to Sunday school and church today and tonight also. He sure likes to play his little guitar and now he wants a banjo and I guess I’ll have to find him one. It’s amazing how a little child likes music, he gets my guitar books and looks at them. He’s not even 2 years old yet and he’s trying to make chords on the guitar.
He likes going to church. Folks, its what you teach them and show them.
The Roots Branch Church will be having their monthly singing this Saturday night starting at 7 PM. Everyone is welcome to come, so come on out and worship with us.
A lot of people are sick in need of praying. Edgar Lawson, Susan Whitis, James Brown, Harley Sibert Waymon and Joyce Mills, Carl and Ruby Hibbard, and also little Haley Spurlock. Remember the ones in the hospitals and the nursing homes. Remember Gladys Smith in your prayers too.
Some people are having birthdays this week. January the 19th, Gary Singleton and Edward Mitizger. On January the 20th, Daugh Gregory and on the 22nd, preacher George Blair. So we wish you all the best birthday ever and may God bless you all to have many more from all your friends and family.
Pray for all the churches through out the world that more souls may be saved and pray for the leaders of our nation.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May the good Lord bless and keep you and may He forever hold you in His hands.

We can't complain about the weather

Well friends, we can’t complain about the weather so far this year, we’ve not had much snow so far, but the good Lord knows what we need. We should count our blessings everyday. It’s good to go to church and Sunday school.

We are so blessed here in America. The good Lord gives us the things we need. So many times we forget to thank him for his blessings.

So many are sick and still in need of prayers. Edgar Lawson, Susan Whitis Waymon and Joyce Mills, George Blair, Homer Sizemore and his sister and his brother, Raleigh Sizemore. Also remember little Haley Spurlock and Janus Brown. So pray for these people. Remember the ones that are in the hospital, the nursing homes, and the ones that are at home.

Well, it won’t be too long until springtime. It’s time for getting the seed we need for the garden tomatoes and corn seed, cabbage seed, potato seed, and so many more seed we need for the garden. Some people plant potatoes and onions in February.

Some folks are having birthdays, Diana Brown, Jonathon Denson, Arron Smith, Wendi Baird, Johnny “Poss” Gregory, and Marcus Trenton Lewis.

Clay and Gertrude Lawson will be having birthday Sunday, January the 15th. So to everyone that are having birthdays, may God richly bless you to have many more.

I want to thank everyone for the phone calls about my little write up and the ones that I meet from time to time saying that they enjoy reading my little column.

I don’t have any fancy things to write about, I’m just a plain person, and we got nothing bad to say about anyone. We are to love one another as the Lord teaches us to do.

So many people are hurting and have needs, but the greatest need people need today is salvation. They need to be saved, but God gives each person a choice. So chose the Lord and Savior now.

Well I’ll stop for now, may the good Lord bless and keep you. God bless America, and may He forever hold you in His hands.

A Wonderful Christmas

Well folks, we had a good Christmas here at our house. We had something to eat and we were warm. We had plenty of visitors come and eat dinner and the grandbaby got clothes and toys.
He got some pretty clothes and a toy in the mail from way up Virginia Way. I want to thank Sarah Pilfrey and her friends, the Red Hat Women. Sarah, we thank you so much for what you have done for us, and tell the ladies the clothes fit the baby and he will wear them to church.
You should see him when he goes to church. He acts like a grown up and he plays his little guitar and he tries to help me. I play guitar and sing in church. I’m trying to teach him good things and tell him about the Lord. His favorite song is Jesus Saves Me.
People today need to take their children to Sunday school and church. People have gotten away from the Lord.
We had watch night service at our church last night. We had a big crowd and good singing until 12 PM. The Lord is so good to us all.
I guess a lot of people are making resolutions for the new year. We all should do more for the Lord, and do the best we can to win the lost for Christ. We need more love for one another.
Some people are still sick and in need of prayers. Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Susan Whitis, and James Brown. So pray for them. Remember the ones that are in the hospital, the nursing homes, and the ones that have lost a loved one.
I want to thank everyone that gets the paper and for all of you that read my little write up, and I want to thank the staff that helps me with my write up at the Enterprise.
As we start the new year, may God richly bless you and your family. God bless America and may He forever hold you in His hands.

Remember The Reason For The Season

Remember The Reason For The Season

Well folks, the good Lord willing, this coming weekend we will celebrate Christ’s Birthday. It’s a time where most of the family will be together, but people let us be reminded the reason for the season. The Lord is so good to us all. I want to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas. To the Smiths and Pelfreys way up Virginia Way and to all of you that read my little column each week and to the staff at the Enterprise, they are so good to me.
We have got so many Christmas cards this Christmas. It is so good to have so many friends, we had a good time this weekend going to Sunday school and church and our singing to Lords Willing We Will Be. Going down to the nursing home this Thursday night to sing and have church with them. So many people are shut ins and not able to go to church.
Happy anniversaries go out this week to Lee and Lillie Mae Hicks. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Jordan Sizemore and Victor Gregory and Oakely Ray Gregory. May God bless you all to have many more. We want to wish our good friend Geredene Boats Smith a good Christmas, she has always been a good friend to me and I thank God for true friends like her.
Lets pray for the ones that are sick, Susan Whites Waymon and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Junior Mills, Jamie Brown, Pauline Brown, Gladys Smith, and Denver Smith. So many each week need prayer so pray for them. Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week.
The Howard Rogers family and the Burchell family too, so many each week passing from this life.
We need to be thankful everyday for what we have at Christmas time. We get people gifts and that’s good. Let’s remember the greatest gift that was ever given, when God gave his only Son for all of us and its good to know that all of our solders are coming home from the war.
Lets remember all the sick and shut ins, the ones in the hospitals, the ones in the nursing homes, and the ones that are at home.
Well, I’ll stop for this time. May God bless each of you and draw our house to your house. Have a very merry Christmas. God bless America and may he forever hold you in His hands.

It's Winter Time Anyway

It’s Winter Time Anyway
Well folks it’s sure been cold for the last few days here at our house, with the big frost on the ground and the ground has been too, but its winter time anyway.  A lot of people have put up their Christmas lights all ready and they are so pretty.  When we were children at home, we would get all excited because we knew we would get a little something for Christmas.  We would hang out socks above the mantle off the fireplace and on Christmas morning we would get up early to see what we got in our stockings.  We would get a Big Apple and Orange, and a big stick of candy, but we never got any toys.  Children today get Christmas every week or month and they don’t appreciate the things they get because they have so much.
The time when we grew up, every body was poor.  We didn’t get much, but we really appreciated it, we were glad to get what we got.  We had plenty to eat because we grew most of it.  We all worked on the farm and raising the garden today, kids don’t know how to raise a garden or milk a cow or feed the hogs and chickens.  A lot of people have asked me to write and tell how I grew up and the things we did on the farm.  When I went to school I walked about 4 miles a day, and when I went to high school I walked about 6 miles a day through the water and mud.  Back then times were hard, but people loved one another and we were happy.
So lord willing I’ll write about how I grew up one of these days.
A lot of people are still sick Wayan and Joyce Mills, Edgar Lawson, Harley and Norma Lee Sibert, Junior Mills, James Brown, Carl Hibbard, and Celia Mills, so pray for these folks.
Remember the ones that have lost a loved one this past week.
Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Ethel May Jackson, she will be 82 years young the 12th of December, also baby Tate Scrimner will be the big 5 on the 13th.  Donald Junior Hubbard will be the big 2 on the 15th, and Shane Gibson will be celebrating his birthday on the 18th.
Happy Anniversaries go out to Gentry and Lisa Gibson, George and Faye Blair, Donald Lee and Ana Hubbard, and Harold and Trish Smith.
So to all of you that are having birthdays and anniversaries, may God Richly bless you all to have many more.  We love you all.
It sure is good to have good friends these days.  Jamie Hicks is over hauling the engine in my tractor.  It’s 32 years old and nothing has been done to it.  It sure has been a good one.  He sure is a good friend to me and I really appreciate him.
We’ll I’ll stop for this time and I want to wish everyone a good Christmas.  May God richly Bless America and May he for ever hold you in his hands.
