Although there have been many Christmas mornings in my life there are some that are more memorable than others. All of the ones as a small boy are etched in my mind so deep that I can recall them as if they were only yesterday. That’s because the one small gift I opened on Christmas morning was more than likely the only gift I would receive all year.

Today, it’s hard to remember a time when it wasn’t cool, to say the bad words. You know, the four letter ones. In conversation now people throw them out left and right and never think twice about it. Kids hear them every day at school, every night on TV, and in their music. If you’ve ever listened to a Rap song, you’ll hear words only a drunken sailor would use on his worst drinking binge, over and over.

The story you are about to read is true and this really did happen to me.
My story takes place at my cousin’s house in southern Ohio. I was deer hunting with Roy, my uncle Gilbert Ray’s son, on the property around his home just like I had done for years.

It was a dark, calm summer night. My brothers and I along with our cousins Larry, Mark, and Terry were on a mission. It consisted of a trip to a place where few had ever gone during the day, much less in total darkness.
