Last week's Team Kids Spring Fling at Macedonia Baptist Church was a big success. There were 143 kids in attendance! Thanks to everyone who helped out.
In other church news, we were pleased to have over 100 in Sunday School for Easter Sunday. We had Easter specials by both Carley Hoskins and Jan Hoskins. I haven't mentioned it before, but we are blessed with a special by the Macedonia Baptist Church Choir every Sunday morning during the worship service. Sometimes I think I give them short shrift when I report on everyone's specials except theirs!
I hope everyone had a beautiful Easter Sunday. I will close with some more quotes in honor of Easter. “We live and die; Christ died and lived!”~John Stott. “Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won't stay there.” ~Clarence W. Hall. “I have read in Plato and Cicero sayings that are very wise and very beautiful; but I never read in either of them: "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden."~St Augustine.

“The dying Jesus is the evidence of God's anger toward sin; but the living Jesus is the proof of God's love and forgiveness.” - Lorenz Eifert. “They gave him a manger for a cradle, a carpenter's bench for a pulpit, thorns for a crown, and a cross for a throne. He took them and made them the very glory of His career.” - W. E. Orchard. “Let the resurrection joy lift us from loneliness and weakness and despair to strength and beauty and happiness.” - Floyd W. Tomkins. I wish you and yours a blessed and beautiful Easter Sunday!

I would like to wish an extra special birthday to my mom, Charlene Baker. Her birthday is on April 8th. It's a wonderful thing when your mom is also your best friend and I am very thankful to have her as my mother and friend.
Reading is Magically Egg-citing! Come and read with your child in the Burning Springs Elementary School library during Open House. Open House is scheduled on April 7th from 3:15 to 6:00 pm. Take this opportunity to talk with your child's teacher and spend some quality time together. “TV. If kids are entertained by two letters, imagine the fun they'll have with twenty-six. Open your child's imagination. Open a book.” - Author Unknown.
In other school news, Great By 8 Parent/Community Forum was scheduled for March 28th from 5-7:00 pm. This is a forum for all families, especially those with children under the age of eight.
In Macedonia Baptist Church news, we've already been given our theme for this year's Bible School which is a big help for coming up with decorating ideas. Each the teachers do a magical job with room decorations, transforming the classrooms, food, craft, music and sanctuary areas. So far we've had a tropical paradise, a pirate ship, and a camp to name a few.
In other church news, we would like to invite everyone out to hear Kevin Rice provide the special music during our Sunday morning service on April 17th.
Wayne and I took a trip to Tennessee for our 23rd anniversary. And wouldn't you know it, we saw my BFF, Dolly Parton, again. Wayne got a good look at her as she paraded by, but I was so busy fiddling with the camera that I missed seeing her up close. And for all that, I only got her side view in the photo. Which goes to show you need to live life, instead of trying to view it through a camera lens. “You don't need a camera all the time. The soul, the heart, the eyes and spirit and all your other senses capture moments beautifully, too.” - Terri Guillemets.
Happy birthday to my second mom. When I was a teenager, I spent many happy hours down at Jewel Baker's house. Jewel's birthday was on April 1st. I hope you had a wonderful day.
I will close with a couple of quotes about two of my favorite things, books and reading: “I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.” - Anna Quindlen. And now for a humorous one: “Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.” - P.J. O'Rourke. Have a good week!

I'm writing this on Sunday, March 20th, the first day of Spring. The weather has been beautiful all weekend with sunshine, gentle breezes and the temperature inching towards seventy degrees. It's the time of year when you can look ahead and know that for about seven months we'll be having some nice weather to enjoy. Now, if we can just keep ourselves from complaining about the heat, we'll be just fine!
Mark Twain had this to say about Spring: “It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” Enjoy the week!

This return to winter weather has got me thinking about warming comfort food for the cooler days we've been having. Here is a recipe for “Impossibly Easy Cheeseburger Pie” to try during these last couple of weeks of winter.
The ingredients are: 1 pound of ground beef, 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup), ½ teaspoon salt, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4 ounces), ½ cup Bisquick mix, 1 cup milk and 2 eggs.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Spray a 9 inch pie plate with cooking spray. Cook ground beef and onion in skillet until beef is browned. Drain and stir in salt. Spread in pie plate. Sprinkle with cheese.
In a small bowl, stir the rest of the ingredients with a fork or wire whisk until blended and pour into the pie plate over the beef, onion and cheese.
Bake about 25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Top off a slice of this delicious pie just like you would a cheeseburger. I love it with ketchup, but other suggestions are barbeque sauce, bacon, salsa, sliced tomato, pineapple slices or avocado.
This is an old recipe. It's been on the back of the Bisquick box for years, and it's still one of the most-requested Impossibly Easy Pie recipes. There are also Impossibly Easy Pie recipes for lasagna, taco, bacon, vegetables, seafood, ham and cheddar, and chicken and broccoli. You can find these recipes and more at www.bettycrocker.com/recipes.
I would like to wish a big happy birthday to Delbert Woods. Delbert will be 92 on March 11th. All your friends and family wish you a happy day.
Happy birthday to David Turner on March 11th. Herb Westerfield celebrates a birthday on March 15th. Happy 19th birthday to Janson Hoskins on the 16th. I wish you all a happy day!
I will close with some humorous quotes about food: “It would be nice if the Food and Drug Administration stopped issuing warnings about toxic substances and just gave me the names of one or two things still safe to eat.” - Robert Fuoss. “My favorite animal is steak.” - Fran Lebowitz. “In Mexico we have a word for sushi: bait.” - Jose Simons. “As a child my family's menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.” - Buddy Hackett. Have a good week and here's hoping that Spring will be here soon!
