I had a lot of fun being part of the mob that gathers each year to watch the prom goers alight from their vehicles and walk the red carpet into the prom. The theme this year was New York and I got a little peek inside the gym as they were working on the decorations earlier in the week. There are lots of preparations for prom and the art/decorating crew does a wonderful job putting it all together. I wish I had everyone's names to include but I don't...you know who you are.
By the time this comes out in the paper, graduation will only be three days away! It's a happy, sad and exciting time for the seniors. Don't worry about the future generations. There are plenty of great kids in the world and many of them are right here at CCHS!
If you enjoy listening to the pastors speak on WTBK, Bro. Charlie Goodman is on this week, May 30th through June 3rd. Jason Root is scheduled for June 6th through the 10th. Bro. Frank Peters will be on June 13th through the 17th. The 20th through the 24th is Anthony Lovett and the 27th through July 1st is John Routh.
In Macedonia Baptist Church news, thanks to Wendell Carmack for filling in for Bro. Charlie this past Sunday morning. We had our 5th Sunday fellowship meal this past Sunday evening. Recognition of this year's high school graduates will be during the morning service next Sunday, Jun 5th.
Parents, bring your kids to Vacation Bible School June 6th through the 10th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm each night. There will be Bible lessons, games and crafts and a snack will be provided. Call 598-5518 if you need the bus to pick up your children.
Trevor Thomas Drama Ministry will be here during our morning service on Sunday, June 12th. Everyone is invited. The next Brotherhood meeting is scheduled for June 13th.
A special thanks goes out to Bob Buttery for taking the photograph of our church that is now being used as the cover art for our bulletins.
This past weekend we commemorated Memorial Day. There is frequently confusion between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and is a day set aside to remember those who have died in American military service. Veteran's Day is the day set aside to honor those who have served in the United States in war and survived. (Information courtesy of Dictionary.com).
In honor of those who we honor this day, “I'm proud to be an American, Where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, Who gave that right to me.” - Lee Greenwood. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” - inscription on a headstone in Ireland.

The Last Winter is Over
I had thought we were through blackberry winter, but my blackberry bushes were blooming this past week during this last little cold snap. I, for one, will be glad once this last “winter” is over and I will try to remember this and not complain when the temperature soars this summer.
In anniversaries, happy 16th anniversary to Robert and Renee Marcum on June 1st. Happy 39th anniversary to Darrell and Jan Hoskins on June 2nd. Mitchell and Tyra Allen celebrated their anniversary on May 29th.
In May birthdays, happy birthday to Lynn Chestnut on the 28th. Mary Standafer celebrates her birthday on the 29th. Happy birthday to LeAnn Sandlin on the 30th.
In Macedonia Baptist Church news, special music this past Sunday morning was by Jan Hoskins. Vacation Bible School will be June 6th through the 10th from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm each night. Sunday, May 29th, we have have our 5th Sunday Fellowship meal for the evening service.
I know we always say things like, “I can't believe how time flies,” but it really is hard to believe that the end of this school year is upon us with all of the end of the year activities. The Seniors enjoyed a day at King's Island and then the next week there was another trip to King's Island for all students with good attendance.
I enjoyed attending the “Evening of Excellence” a couple of weeks ago at the high school. The event is the high school's way of rewarding the kids who excel on the CATS test. All eligible kids receive a certificate and cards for free food items from restaurants around town. Then a drawing is held for the big prizes. A lot of work goes into securing all those prizes and my daughter became the proud owner of a new television that night for all her hard work.
Televisions weren't the only thing leaving the gym that night. Lucky winners received movie tickets, gas cards, shopping and restaurant gift cards, netbooks or Ipods. Matt Davisson left with an Ipad and Amber Day won the grand prize which was a big screen television.
Next up is prom this weekend and graduation the next! Then come all the big changes as the seniors make their way to their different colleges this fall. I'll close with a quote for the upcoming graduates: Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” ~Robert Louis Stevenson. Have a good week!

What do you get when you add together several inflatables, 85 degree weather and 176 kids? You get the end of the year Team Kid Bash at Macedonia Baptist Church. The kids had a blast playing on the inflatable slides and there were small inflatables for the little guys. After a seemingly endless supply of cookies and popcorn were served and countless bottles of two liters were emptied into waiting cups, the tired but happy bunch piled into their rides for home.
The last night of Team Kids for the year was on May 11th. But after a summer off, we'll be starting back up after school resumes in August. The exact date will be announced well in advance.
While you're waiting on Team Kids to start back up, come join the fun at our annual Vacation Bible School. The buses will be running. You can call the church at 598-5518 if you need a ride. There will be classes for kids ages 4 (preschool) through 12th grade. We will have Bible lessons, crafts, games and food each night.
This past Sunday morning, we honored those Team Kids who had perfect attendance for the past year. Twenty kids had not missed any Wednesday nights and twelve of those were at church on Sunday morning to receive their trophies.
Two of our Team Kids have a long streak of perfect attendance. Michael Harris has seven years of perfect attendance and Will Clarkston has perfect attendance for eight.
Before the awards were handed out we watched a slide show of this past year in Team Kids. Thanks to Renee Marcum for being our photographer all year long. Activities over the past year included a Spring Fling, Fall Festival, Youth Lock-In, Movie Night and the end of the year Team Kid Bash with inflatables.
The kids have a lot of fun but the main reason we have the Team Kid program is to see lives transformed. The teachers sow the seed each week with Bible lessons and each year we see lives changed as kids make decisions for Christ.
Happy birthday to my good friend, Marsha Garrison, on May 20th. Wilma Grubbs celebrated a birthday on May 15th.
Patience Smith, daughter of Mark and Amy Smith, celebrates her 14th birthday on May 19th. Nicholas Allen, son of Dwight and Donna Allen, celebrates his 9th birthday on May 22nd.
Happy 7th anniversary to Steven and Kristy Hampton on May 24th.
It was good to have Kevin Rice and his band with us this past Sunday morning to bring the special music for our service. Our own, Stephen Hampton, is playing guitar with the band now. Special music for our Sunday evening service was by Bro. Charlie, Rhonda and Taylor Fay Goodman. Bro. Charlie accompanied them on the guitar. If you don't have a church home we would love to invite you to Macedonia Baptist Church.
This week's quote is from Napoleon Bonaparte: “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force . Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.”

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! I finally had all three of mine at home together so it was a good day for me.
We had a lot of talent in the younger set for Mother's Day at Macedonia Baptist Church this past Sunday morning. Taylor Fay Goodman, daughter of Bro. Charlie and Rhonda Goodman, sang “Jesus Loves Me.” Next up was Lilly Barton Smith, daughter of Elbert and Leigh Ann Smith, playing several selections on the violin. Last was Abigail Wagers, daughter of Russ and Michelle Wagers, singing “Jesus Loves Me” as she accompanied herself on the piano. There were over 100 for Sunday School and we were happy to have a lot of visitors for the morning worship service.
Team Kids will be finishing up this Wednesday night, May 11th, with a night of fun playing on inflatables. We had 132 kids this past Wednesday night.
There was a lock-in at the bowling alley for the youth this past Friday night. Around 53 youth and adults came out to stay up all night and enjoy some fun together. Thanks to all the adults who went and to all who brought food for the event.
In upcoming activities, Kevin Rice will be bringing the special music during our Sunday morning worship service on May 15th. May 16th will be Ladies Fellowship at 6:00 pm. We will be having a 5th Sunday Fellowship meal on May 29th at 5:00 pm.
Kids, start planning now to attend Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School at Macedonia Baptist Church will be June 6th through June 10th from 6:00 pm. to 9:00 pm. each night. Buses will run. There's a great theme for this year and you don't want to miss it!
Trevor Thomas Drama Ministry will be here during our morning worship service on Sunday, June 12th. I'd like to invite everyone to come out to all of these activities.
Happy 17th birthday to Zachary Harris. His birthday was on May 3rd. Mason Rice celebrated a birthday on May 8th. Happy birthday to Elbert Smith on May 14th. Carl Melton and Brenda Parker also have birthdays on the 14th.
Happy 18th birthday to Taylor White, daughter of Doug and Donna White. Her birthday is on May 12th.
Boots Smith has a birthday coming up on May 18th as does Kari Cotton. I wish you all a happy birthday and many more!
Happy anniversary to Bro. Charlie and Rhonda Goodman. Their anniversary is May 12th. Happy anniversary to Wes and Helen Sandlin on May 16th.
When I was searching for Easter quotes a few weeks back, I found more good ones than I could use at one time, so today I would like to share a few more: “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for me.” ~Robert M. McCheyne. “No man can follow Christ and go astray.” ~William H.P. Faunce. “What good is having someone who can walk on water if you don't follow in his footsteps?” ~Author Unknown. Have a good week!

All this beautiful weather has got me thinking about shopping in the open air. You know what I mean...yard sales! And they were out in full force this past weekend. Besides being an activity you can do while outside enjoying the sunshine, it's also a “green” way to shop. Buying clothes and household items with a history leaves less of a footprint on our planet and haven't we all been hearing more and more about that.
It's also a great way to save money. With the price of gas soaring, we're all going to have to find other areas in which to cut back. If you're not a fan of yard sales, you can always shop Goodwill or one of our local thrift stores. The Goodwill stores at London and Corbin always have a large selection of gently used name brands. We have several wonderful thrift stores here in town that carry name brands as well as a slew of shoes, purses, scarves, books and household items.
April Foiles said, “I feel good about taking things to Goodwill and actually, I do like shopping at Goodwill. It's so cheap that it feels like a library where I am just checking things out for awhile until I decide to take them back.”
I have a couple of anniversaries for the column this week. I would like to wish a happy anniversary to Bill and Tina Sandlin on May 7th. Eddie and Donna Marcum celebrate their anniversary on May 10th.
Mrs. Jane Moberly has a milestone birthday this year. She will be 100 years old on May 7th. Mrs. Moberly was my Sunday School teacher at one time when I was growing up and you could tell that she really enjoyed teaching because she put a lot into it. You would always learn something in her class.
An 18th birthday is a milestone, too, just in a different way. Happy 18th birthday to Chase Jackson on May 11th. Chase is the son of Darrell and Linda Jackson.
I would also like to wish a happy birthday to one of our Burning Springs Homemakers. Rometta Hensley celebrates her birthday on May 9th. Happy birthday to Rebecca Rader on May 11th.
This Sunday we celebrate Mother's Day and I would like to wish my mom, my mother-in-law and all the other mothers out there a wonderful day filled with family, fun and hopefully too much food!
“If the whole world were put into one scale, and my mother in the other, the whole world would kick the beam.” - Henry Bickersteth. “Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.” - Marion C. Garretty. Have a wonderful week and tell your mother you love her!
