Martha Allen

Martha Allen, 79, of Liberty, Indiana, formerly of Clay County, passed away Monday at the Sycamore Springs Nursing Home at Liberty.

Funeral services for Martha Allen were held Friday at 11:00 AM at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Griffie officiating. Burial followed at the Lower Saddler Cemetery at Teges.

Charley Gibson

Charley Gibson, 88, of Monticello, KY, formerly of Clay County, the husband of Lorene Gibson, passed away Friday at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital at Somerset.

Funeral services for Charley Gibson were held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Floyd officiating. Burial followed at the Herd Cemetery at Sibert.

Visitation was Monday Evening at the Britton Funeral Home.

Bobby Jones

Bobby Jones of Curry Branch passed away at the UK Medical Center on August 18, 2011 at the age of 74. He was born March 21, 1937 to the union of Bill & Rose Jones of Paces Creek who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Roberts Jones of Curry Branch. His daughter Lucky Michelle Wagers (Sam) of Curry Branch. His grandchildren Christopher Andrew Wagers, Bobby Dustin Wagers, & Derek Douglas Wagers all of Curry Branch. Sister, Pauline Baker of Island Creek. 2 Brothers, Baxter Jones of Paces Creek & Melvin Jones of Corbin. His Mother-in-Law, Imogene Roberts of Curry Branch.

He was preceded in death by the following brothers & sister, Vernon Jones, Roy Jones, Bill Jones, Jr., Maynard Jones, Renus (Todd) Jones, Maynard Jones, Willie Ray Jones, & Marie Combs.

He was a veteran of the US Army & a member of the Curry Branch Holiness Church. Visitation will be after 6:00 PM on Saturday, August 20th at the Britton Funeral Home. Funeral will be on Sunday, August 21st at 1:00 PM at Britton Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Holt & Rev. George Roberts. Burial will follow at the Roberts Cemetery in the Curry Branch Community.

Jackie Cotton, 46, of London, formerly of Manchester, passed away Sunday at his home.

Funeral services for Jackie Cotton will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Jessie Kemp, Garnett Barrett, & Michael Sparks officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cotton Cemetery at Lyttleton.

Melissa Napier Granato

Melissa Napier Granato


Melissa E. Napier Granato, 38, of Corbin, formerly of Evarts, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.  She was an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) at the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center in Corbin and Manchester.  Melissa graduated from Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky with a BS and a Masters Degree in nursing.  She was currently working on her doctorate at Eastern Kentucky University.
A member of the Evarts Congregation United Methodist Church, she loved life and especially enjoyed traveling and spoiling her niece.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Otis Browning and Wallace R. Napier, Sr.
Survivors include her husband, Joey Granato, Corbin; her parents Wallace Napier and Janice Browning Napier, Evarts; her sister, Michelle Napier Pinkston and husband, Paul, Versailles; and her beloved niece, Claire Pinkston, Versailles.  Also surviving are her grandmothers, Carrie Browning, Harlan, and Eva Napier, Mary Alice; her special uncle, William “Hoppy” Browning and wife, Judy, Baxter; an aunt, Sherry Napier, Mary Alice; and a host of cousins, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 pm Tuesday at the Evarts Funeral Home and after 11 am Wednesday at the Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at the Church with the Reverend David Gross and the Reverend Robert Amundsen officiating.
Interment will be at the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith on Friday at 1 pm.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Dixon, Robbie Wilkerson, Kevin Crider, Jeff Brashears, Joe Adams, Jason Gilbert, Jason Christian, Benji Coleman, Brian Mabelitini, Will Bowman, Duncan Dixon, Evan Davis and Paul Pinkston.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center in Corbin and Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Evarts High School Alumni Association Scholarship and Building Fund or the Evarts Congregation United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.
