Bend But Don't Break

Tigers Hang On for One-Point Win Over Boyle County

Danville – Down one with 7.4 seconds left in the game, Clay County junior Kody Reed received an inbounds pass and hit a shot off the glass with 4.9 seconds remaining against host Boyle County.

Following Reed’s bucket, the ensuing shot from Boyle County rimmed out, giving the Tigers the one-point victory in their first road game of the season.

Both teams went back and forth throughout the entire game, with neither team gaining an edge.

Junior Stephon Lyttle’s bucket to end the third quarter gave the Tigers a two-point lead, 30-28.

Lyttle followed with the first bucket of the fourth to give Clay County a four-point edge.

After both teams traded buckets, senior Zach McGeroge put the Tigers up five with just over 4 minutes remaining.

Boyle County cut the lead to one with just over two minutes to play following two free-throws, but McGeorge scored his 14th point of the game to put the Tigers back up three with two mintues to play.

But two straight Tiger turnovers led to Boyle County taking the lead after a three-pointer with 26.4 seconds remaining, giving the host Rebels a 43-42 lead.

The Tigers ate a bit more clock before calling a timeout with 7.4 seconds left, which was just enough time for Reed to burst open under the bucket for a game-winning shot off the glass.

Reed and McGeorge led the Tigers with 14 points apiece.  Lyttle added eight points, while senior Zac Kemp finished with five.  Junior Steven Wagers netted three points in the win.

The win improves the Tigers to 6-0 on the year, while Boyle County falls to 1-3.
