Auto Theft Solved Within Hours

An alleged car theft was solved just hours after the incident occurred by the Manchester Police Department when officer Jeff Couch spotted the car while on patrol on Route 687 and stopped the vehicle at the mouth of Caudill Gap.
Robert Young, age 35 of Manchester was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking (auto), driving DUI suspended license (second offense in five years). Officer Jimmy Smith was the arresting officer.
The alleged theft took place during an earlier investigation of shoplifting at Wal-Mart. Young was a passenger in a car driven by Judy Ross (Roberts). During the investigation Ross, age 37, was arrested on outstanding warrants by officer Smith and charged with wanton endangerment (second degree), assault (fourth degree) (minor injury) and criminal mischief (third degree). Officer Couch assisted Smith at the scene.
After Ross was arrested she requested someone to be called to pick up her car. Young offered to drive it, but he had a suspended license. When Ross was put in the cruiser, Young jumped into the drivers seat and fled the scene in the Ross car.
Ross filed a complaint against Young and the car was listed as stolen.

Tractor Accident Claims Life of Jessie Napier

Funeral services were held Monday for a Tanyard man who died as the result of a tractor rollover accident. Jesse Robert Napier was buried at Tanyard Cemetery, very close to were the accident happened that claimed his life.

Why Invest in Clay County Public Schools?

During the September Clay County School Board meeting the board voted to raise property taxes to 66 cents from the 2014 rate of 55.5 cents. The compensating tax rate would have been 56.9 cents. A public hearing will be held at the board Wednesday September 24 at 6 PM. The board has released the following press release:

Public Meeting on Memorial Drive to Lyttleton Road Reconstruction

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled a Public Information Meeting for the proposed reconstruction of KY 2432 in Clay County. The public meeting will be held at the Clay County Middle School on Thursday, September 18 and will run from 5-7 PM.
