Following a devastating fire that destroyed the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter, the shelter contracted to accept Clay County strays, hope is now on the horizon. Through an outpouring of donations, both monetary and equipment, and a reduced rental agreement on the former A&J Lawnmowers building, Clay, Knox, Whitley, and McCreary County strays will soon have a new home.
Larry "Cornbread" Barker, celebrated DJ and owner/operator of WKLB AM 1290 and FM 104.5 Radio in Clay County, passed away December 13, 2013 at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, KY. The popular DJ and U.S. Veteran was 71 years old.
This holiday season, Clay County, Manchester and state law enforcement will be cracking down on drunken drivers throughout the county during the aggressive Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign. From December 13, 2013, to January 1, 2014, state and local law enforcement will be watching for drunk drivers to help keep roads safe for holiday travelers.
A trial date has been set for Terry Smith, a Horse Creek man accused of heading a large scale drug trafficking organization, for February, 18, 2014. Smith, 53, is believed to have sent more than half a dozen people to out-of-state pain clinics to acquire oxycodone, according to investigators.
