Hughes Hearing Rescheduled for Friday in Williamsburg

A second pretrial conference in the murder case against Dwight Douglas Hughes, age 61 of Fogertown is scheduled for Friday (March 27) in Whitley County before Judge Paul Winchester beginning at 10 AM. This conference was originally scheduled for February 20 but canceled due to weather.

Burglary, Drug Cases Scheduled for Arraignment

Burglary, Drug and DUI cases as scheduled for arraignment in Clay Circuit Court Monday April 6.
Tabitha Lovins, age 28 was charged in a Clay County Grand Jury indictment for: possession of controlled substance (first degree). According to the indictment on July 4 (2014) she unlawfully possessed methamphetamine (schedule II controlled substance and narcotic drug).

900 Clay workers leave the labor force

900 Clay County workers left the labor force from December till January according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. In December 6,148 people were in the current labor force compared to only 5,248 in January. The total of county residents who were employed dropped by 961 from 5,656 to 4,695. Statewide the labor force dropped by 15,680 and the number of employed residents dropped by 34,912.

One man is facing assault charges and another is recovering from gunshot wounds after a verbal altercation led to violence. Michael Couch and Jason Cottongim got into an argument near Fall Rock Thursday afternoon that ended with Couch in jail and Cottongim in the hospital.

Council Begins Process of Annexing VFW

Manchester City council voted to begin the process of annexing the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) building into the city during their March meeting. Mayor James Garrison told the council the city policy was to not solicit people into the city but if someone wanted to be included to bring it in front of the council. Other council members also said some other landowners in the VFW area had also expressed interest in becoming part of the city.

A Manchester man is facing nine charges including a DUI on an ATV after stopping at an ongoing police investigation. Nathan Short, age 28 of Wick Hill Road (Manchester) was charged after Kentucky State Policeman Josh Wilson responded to a shots fired complaint and Short pulled up next to him on an ATV. Wilson administered a field sobriety test after he discovered Short unstable on his feet, had bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils.

Gibbs charged with leaving scene of accident

Rodney Lee Gibbs, age 33 of Clay Lab Apartments (Manchester) has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Add Hollow Road. Lucy Collins told Kentucky State Trooper Jarrod Smith that Gibbs had struck her Chevy Van while driving a black Saturn and fled toward KY HWY 11 South. Smith located Gibbs at his apartment and he told the trooper he did get into an accident, but he did not think they were calling police.

Senior Tiger cheerleaders Kelsey Garrison, Meghan Hibbard, Loren Reynolds embraced during the final seconds of the Tigers loss to Williamsburg in the 13th region tournament championship game.

After coming back from double-digit deficits in earlier games against Corbin and Knox Central the Clay County Tigers came up short after falling down 19 in the 13th region championship game against Williamsburg Monday night.
