Betty Jo Morris and several members of the local Manchester/Clay County Trail Town Committee were present at the July Manchester City Council meeting. Morris gave an update on the process of becoming an official trail town.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) SGT Steve Smallwood was advised by a passer by of a vehicle broke down on US 421 near Sav-A-Lot. G.H. Sizemore, age 53 of Otter Creek Road (Manchester) and Donnie Baker, 55 of Ernie Couch Road (Manchester) were standing beside the vehicle and told him they had lost a tire wheel. A Sexton’s Creek man is dead following a suspicious fire at his residence on the Clay County, Owsley County line. Lawrence “Larry” Sizemore, 68, of Sextons Creek was found deceased inside the residence by fire and police officials.
An early morning accident on a dangerous section of highway claimed the life of one of Clay County’s newest residents. Nelson Wayne Collier, 32 had just moved to Honeysuckle Road in the Morgan Branch Community from Michigan.
Clay County Judge Executive Joe Asher released a statement Monday that he would not perform any marriages “till further notice”. Asher joins a list of local Judges to give up the privilege of officiating marriages after a recent Supreme Court case that made non-tradition marriages legal in all fifty states.
