Cleanup began in downtown Manchester Tuesday morning after a foot of snow blanketed the county Monday. City employee, Hugh Gregory works hard to uncover as much as he can before the next snowstorm.

 

While Clay County residents are digging out from under the largest snowfall of this century they are also keeping their eyes on a weather forecast that is predicting temperatures below freezing until the weekend with a possible -15 to -20 on Thursday morning with additional snowfall possible. Long-range forecasts call for a high in the forties Saturday with freezing rain changing to all rain by the afternoon.

Davidson caught swapping shoes at Walmart

Manchester Police Officer Jeff Couch responded to Walmart to investigate a shoplifting complaint and located Johnny Davidson, age 35 of Manchester with Walmart asset protection after he was observed removing his old shoes replacing them with new ones and concealing other items. Davidson had an outstanding warrant from Harrison and Clay counties. Davidson was charged with theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting), criminal trespassing (third degree) and failure to pay fines.

CCMS Lady Tiger Softball Team Honored

The Clay County Middle School Lady Tiger Softball team was presented with a flag flown over the United States capital in the team’s honor at the request of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The CCMS Lady Tigers are the 2013 and 2014 SEKY Middle School Fast Pitch Champions.  Coaches Billy and Shelia Hurd say they are looking forward to another great season this year.

Smith seeks new trial in federal court

Terry R. Smith has mailed documents seeking a new trial in federal court after he and his wife Gerry were found guilty by a jury on drug related charges. Terry was also found guilty in the death of Patty “Big Pat” Smallwood and on a gun charge.

Lawson explains why he was at Walmart the morning of shooting

On Monday December 8 Richard Lawson was getting ready to go to work as a long distance truck driver. His truck has yet to be back on the road after he was flown to UK for treatment and surgery following an assault and shooting in the Manchester Walmart parking lot about an hour later. Michael Edwards has been charged in the shooting.
