UPDATE: Thursday Morning:
A second person has been arrested. Ashley Cecile Bray age 27 of Manchester has been charged with assault (first degree). A warrant was served on her by Clay County Sheriff’s Detective Trent Baker Wednesday afternoon. More arrests are expected.
A long standing family feud that had escalated to the point it led to District Court dates boiled over into violence leaving one man in critical condition from two gunshot wounds and another in Clay County Detention Center facing assault charges. Both men have been neighbors for several years in the Little Sextons Creek area of Clay County.
Commonwealth Attorney Gary Gregory has removed himself and his office as the prosecutor in the murder case against Dwight Douglas Hughes. The Kentucky Attorney General’s office will appoint a special prosecutor.
The arrest was made by Manchester Assistant Police Chief Patrick Robinson about a quarter-mile from the scene.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene shots were fired after an altercation in the parking lot. The victim was taken to Manchester Memorial Hospital and was flown out by helicopter.
